  3. Stuntman: Hollywood Makes Surprise Debut At State Of Play

Of all the games shown during Sony’s latest State of Play, there was one announcement I absolutely did not expect to write about in the year 2026. Stuntman is back with a new game being developed by Saber.

The long-dormant driving series made a surprise return with the reveal of Stuntman Hollywood, a brand-new entry that appears to embrace everything that made the original games such a unique part of the PS2 era.

The reveal trailer opened with what looked like a fairly standard street racing game. Except the Supra decked out in red and green looked familiar….

Then a white Ferrari that looked suspiciously like it was from Miami Vice.

A very iconic piece of music kicked in, and the Knight Rider car showed up. The DeLorean from Back to the Future appeared. What in the…oh my God, it’s a Stunman game.

Take on iconic stunts inspired by fan-favorite Universal Pictures films and NBCUniversal TV shows like Fast & Furious, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, Miami Vice, and Death Race. The entire game is built around movie shoots, where you perform stunts in all kinds of vehicles including legends like the Time Machine and KITT along with many other cars, SUVs, motorcycles, and even a school bus.

For younger readers who may have missed the original games, Stuntman wasn’t about winning races. Instead, players performed increasingly ridiculous movie stunts, threading cars through exploding sets, launching over obstacles and generally making life miserable for virtual insurance companies.

Based on the trailer, Stuntman Hollywood seems to be sticking to that formula while giving it a modern blockbuster makeover. Explosions, jumps, near misses and spectacular crashes were all on display, exactly as they should be.

Sony didn’t announce a release date, with the trailer ending simply with a “Coming Soon” message.

In a showcase that featured Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War: Laufey, Tomb Raider and Until Dawn 2, it says a lot that one of the night’s biggest surprises was the return of a PS2-era stunt driving series that most people probably assumed was dead and buried.

In an industry where almost everything leaks weeks or months in advance, it’s refreshing to occasionally be blindsided by something completely unexpected. But this didn’t leak. I don’t think I even saw a single rumour that a new Stuntman game was going to pop up. It was a genuine surprise.
