Fran/Me: No…
Fren: This bloke went on a blind date with a girl named Franny. He really liked her, and asked if he could see her again, and she said yes… but all week he was worried he wouldn’t remember her name properly, and kept telling himself
“It’s Fanny with an R… her name is Fanny with an R… “Next saturday night he turns up at her place, and she opens the door and he says “G’day Crunt…”

full surprise 7+ did not double down defending this dickhead for his un-funny joking about domestic violence.joking about domestic violence is not necessarily the same as advocating for domestic violence, but it does help dismiss and diminish legitimate concerns when they are raised by others.
there is no such thing as “humour” without a truth.
for example —
a joke i remember from a christmas cracker (prolly 60+ years ago) was Q “what did the bald man say when he was given a comb for christmas?” A “thanks… i’ll never part with this!”. — not funny without a grain of truth.when someone defends themselves with “it’s just a joke” they are missing the point that what is true for them is not necessarily true for the person challenging their sense of humour.
any person (bloke or otherwise) who jokes about domestic violence lacks insight into the issue. worse still, it says something in the vein of “i don’t believe the problem is real, or that it is ever the husband’s fault and therefore i don’t have to spend 10 seconds caring enough to think about it.”
(similarly, racist jokes, sexist jokes, ableist jokes etc assume a fixed and often limited or indifferent version of truth).

can there be humour WITHOUT making a joke that offends SOMEONE?imo not all humour need rely on punching down. there is a whole strain of european humour (sometimes called jewish humour) that is very warm, and it’s all about celebrating human foibles.
(a great example would be the show “wogs out of work”, which on the surface complained about mediterranean culture/ immigrant parents, and the tension it created with the established anglo community here, but was really a work of praise)any way… there is nothing funny about people punching down, either in real life or in humour, and it actively saddens me to think some people find it funny.
