I found a mixed bag of fun items that I wanted to share. So here’s a Freaky Friday buffet…
Squaring the circles
A square crop circle appeared at Normanton Down Barrows, near Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England on July 14, 2024. Apparently, the farmer didn’t know about it until it appeared on social media. One person says the design may represent “circling the square” – a depiction of the moon phases around the earth, as Stonehenge functioned as a celestial observatory. The landowner opened the feature to the public in order to raise funds to preserve Stonehenge. Source: Crop Circle Connector

The tea was a bit off that day
Still in England, back to last November, Britons were experiencing Storm Ciarán – a record low pressure system. A study by meteorologists published recently indicated that, during this storm event, water boiled at a lower temperature, from 100 to 98C. This happens at high elevations, which is why you sometimes see high altitude directions for a recipe. The study noted that the very low pressure coincided with breakfast time leading The Guardian to print this headline: “Storm Ciarán’s low pressure made tea taste worse, say scientists “
The lower temperature, caused by the lower air pressure, was less effective at extracting flavors from tea leaves, giving a weaker cup than normal if the typical process was followed. I’m not sure Britons noticed, but it was a cheeky way to frame the study anyway.
Marjorie’s strange sounds
I don’t want to delve deeply into politics but this story made me giggle weirdly in my throat. Jon Stewart noticed that Marjorie Taylor Greene, speaking at the RNC, sports a weirdly fake grin and makes a strange noise when she pauses. He wonders what is up with that.

I have a thought. Maybe SHE is a Reptilian!
Some people, who are prone to believe in truly outrageous conspiracy ideas, suggest that lizard-humans are in positions of world power where they hide their true nature, but sometimes slip up. The slip up could be a change in their eyes or other features for a short moment that reveals their secret. If I believed in such a thing, I might be persuaded that she, of the famous “Jewish space lasers,” was not as she really appears, even though she doesn’t really hide the nasty and harassing behavior. MTG has trotted out dozens of ludicrous claims and conspiracy ideas, including that her opponents were committing child murder as part of a Satanic cult. I have not found a mention of her speaking of the Reptilians or reptoids, which have roots in anti-Semitic and alien invasion rhetoric, but with her many gaffs (such as the “Peach Tree dish” and “Gazpacho” police), and her vehement anti-science views on climate change and evolution, she just might be the devil themself trying to deceive us. Or, she could be hiding her identity in order to take control of society. Hmm, the evidence is mounting.
I’m just saying…!!! Just having a bit of fun at her expense. Seems like something she would do to someone else.

Finally, I am recommending that you add this new series to your watch list: Dr. Ken Feder, in conjunction with History Colorado, has posted a 10 part series on YouTube called “Exposing Hoaxes, Busting Myths and Solving Mysteries” related to archaeology. WindFloat Atlantic was robust in the face of #StormCiaran, which tore through #Europe at the end of October and beginning of November last year, thanks to a powerful jet stream that came in from the #Atlantic. November 2023 was another wet month in Southern England, and as we have come to expect, warmer than the 1981-2010 local average. However the final few days brought below average temperatures with light snow on the 30th which is very unusual here.
We also set our low pressure station record of 954.3 hPa on the 2nd as #StormCiarán passed through, one of 3 named storms affecting W. Europe during the month.

CW: Storm Ciarán
Can't help but wonder whether now that the effects of #ClimateChange are finally being felt in Europe, actual action will happen.
Because despite millions of people having died due to climate change in Asia and Africa--longer droughts, more and stronger storms, etc--too many of the people who cause most of the pollution that heats up the atmosphere haven't felt that they actually have skin in the game, and so they shrug and go on.

with open arms and open schools?
Do they gather by wind swept roads
forcing kids to discard their hoods
or shall we find them on padded bar stools
denying climate change, and raising toasts
to fools?

Het ergste is inmiddels achter de rug maar heel Nederland had vandaag te kampen met de gevolgen van storm Ciarán. Vooral in de kustprovincies waren er zware windstoten, maar ook op andere plekken was er overlast. Een overzicht van de dag.
