I love music.
Lately while doing yard work, I've been plugging in using my smartphone and Honeywell (Howard Leight) Impact Sport electronic ear protectors. (I just add a 3.5mm cable and USB-C headset adapter.)
Though they're not high-end enough to claim/do "active noise reduction", they allow me to hear quiet noises (if desired, much better than my unaided hearing) while automatically screening out loud noises such as lawnmowers or chainsaws.
They can also be renewed with inexpensive kits to replace the pads and foam screens (available the last time I looked).
At just $60 (Amazon or better retailers), these provide great value, and had been a staple for me on a gun range. (I traded a huge volume of these through the pro shop.)
uses 2 AAA cells (I use NmH rechargeables)
