One thing Star Cops (1986) nails about the future are the computers. It's quite eerie how the writers understood that chatbots would be used to deflect responsibility.

Rewatching Star Cops and really interested in why it doesn't quite work.
The first two episodes are pretty dense.
There's a point in both about half way through where it's almost like a record skips a groove and the plot requires extra explanation. Maybe the writing or the editing got too clever for its own good.
Also the large regular cast, common for a sci-fi but rare for a detective show, means that any guest star is almost 100% guaranteed to the bad guy in a twist!

Wasn't sure about the latest Star Cops; story felt a bit janky and bringing back Nathan's movie quoting felt odd after so much time without them. However then I got to the reveal half way through and it started making more sense. Still janky but even the best of the original series were like that.

Holiday reading - the making of Star Cops. 350 pages on a show that lasted nine episodes (and inspired Low Earth Orbit Adventures). Perfection.

I like the theme to Star Trek Enterprise. I like they made a bold decision to do something different and have its own identity. I also like the song itself. "It's been a long road. getting from there to here!" I also understand why people dislike it
BUT before that was the original controversial scifi theme "It Won't Be Easy" for the show #StarCops
The creator of the show didn't want it, it doesn't really fit, the singing is a bit off, and the licensing is too expensive but I love it anyway!

Oh Crumbs! I just realised there is a 12" single of the Star Cops theme with an extended version on the A side.
I already have the 7" in my collection. I do not NEED the extended version but it doesn't appear to be available on any other format...
I DID get the 12" of the Absolm Daak theme tune this month and it did feel good to digitize and archive that.

I am in awe of the production pipeline set up by Big Finish
Consider:
* their own online store
* a stable of writers rotating in fresh talent regularly
* a keen eye for under-utilised intellectual property (eg StarCops, Blakes7, Doctor Who)
* a podcast
* a magazine
* an ability to record in a studio or at an actor's home
* good relationships with actors over decades
* regular releases often recorded years(!) earlierIt's a very impressive operation!

I think the biggest swing in #StarCops is also their biggest miss unfortunately.
They include a lot of international politics in their stories. This is pretty fresh and interesting and gives it a big dose of realism and potential for dynamic plots BUT their execution can be a bit... stereotyped.
It's just that kind of British exoticism of other cultures meets ignorance meets production limitations that all combines to make it a bung note sometimes.

For this push on LEO Adventures I'm (re)watching a bit of StarCops and it's flawed but brilliant from the first minute.
It opens with a murder during a spacewalk but intercut with a drowning murder on Earth. I love they do such an approachable way explaining a high concept to an 1980s television audience.
And then the first time we meet the main character he's working from home, how prescient.
It's the show that taught me to love near future sci-fi. It's like a proto-Expanse.

Managed to win an eBay auction for the very rare Star Cops DVD from Network at a much cheaper price than most are going for. 45 Euros with tax and international shipping.
It remains to be seen if I've been conned or not. The seller has good reviews but they have a few listings for this set but are using the same set of pictures for them all.
Of course knowing my luck the BBC will announce a "Star Cops: The Collection" set on Blu-ray...

@aukondk I have currently pencilled in a mission with the working title "Space Station USA" that is inspired by that Ronald Reagan episode of #StarCops
And if I had any bravery at all I would call it Trump Space Station but I think I'm going to chicken out!

@deinol I wish Big Finish would do a spin-off with Takis and Lilt rebuilding Tranquil Repose, dealing with the politics of producing food for the rest of the galaxy and discovering whatever twisted experiments 'The Great Healer' left behind.
Trevor Cooper already does Star Cops with them and I think Colin Spall is still working.

There's this UK show from the 1980s called Star Cops that lasted one short season. "Too real for scifi fans and too scifi for crime fans" was the verdict at the time. I really like it. Very geopolitical, very high concept, super ambitious.
Would love a new version but obviously would also get cancelled today.
