Found this Robot model 70 Slow Scan Television Monitor from mid 1973, and with a bit of care it just works !
An image like this is quite straight-forward to produce, but getting it to show more complex imagery will be not so obvious. This is a long-exposure, the persistence of the tube is actually quite short, so the drawn image is always a lot less bright than the line drawing it. The CRT is supposed to be a P7, but I have never seen a P7 this green... -

Yesterday between 21:56 and 22:03 EET, I managed to hear SSTV tones from the International Space Station using only a Baofeng UV-5RM from my balcony.

Decoder: qsstv 🐧As I went with a handheld setup again, I disregarded automatic frequency correction and just did it by ear like I used to on VHF.
Gotta look into using an Android device for CAT control, that would be awesome. -
Ha, this was sent by the Russians on the ISS, this is a reference to Victory Day (9 May).
I was wondering why they were putting out "March 9th"🤔 (Cyrillic 9 мая -- 9th of May).

ARISS News Release No. 26-28 ARISS SSTV Event Scheduled for this Weekend
5/8/2026
May 8, 2026 — Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) announces a Slow Scan TV (SSTV) event to be held this weekend. The event is scheduled to begin Friday, May 8 at 10:30 UTC | 6:30 AM ET and end on Tuesday, May 12 at 16:30 UTC | 12:30 PM ET and using a transmit power of 10 W. Images will be transmitted at 437.55 MHz (+/- Doppler Shift) using SSTV set at Robot36 mode. The transmission sequence will be 36 seconds on and then 2 minutes off before the next image transmission begins.
