@QuantumDot2 in the summer of 98, I had an internship and our task was to convert documents and #spreadsheets, user by user, from Smart which was a non Y2K compliant office suite to MS Office.
Accounting was last and engineering nearly broke us as they did unholy things to their spreadsheets.
Huh, that's weird. All of the head accountant's spreadsheets imported without issue.
"Hey Les, can you show me how your calcs work. I want to make sure I didn't miss anything"
Oh sure, you see this value times that *his hand snakes over to the ten key calculator* is...
Hundreds of spreadsheets, not a formula to be had. Made my life easier, I suppose

- in der IT (#Softwareentwicklung, Datenanalyse #Olap, Qualitätssicherung, Forschung, etc ) arbeitet
- privat an Datenanlyse jenseits von unübesichtlichen Tabellen (#Spreadsheets) interessiert seid
- Daten wie Kontoauszüge, Telefonbücher oder (elektronische) Kataloge durchforsten wollt

DuckDB kann als eigenständiges Kommandozeilen (#CLI) Programm ohne Abhängigkeiten bezogen und verwendet werden oder auch intergriert in andere #programmiersprachen (#python) oder #tools wie #jupyter integriert werden.

Die CLI-Version kann mit Parameter "-ui" verwendet werden und startet damit ein recht komfortables #webui im lokalen #browser.
Im ersten Schritt legt man nun ein "Notebook" an das zellenweise strukturiert ist.
Es können jederzeit neue Zellen an jeder Stelle im #workflow hinzugefügt, eingefügt oder gelöscht werden.
Unterteilt man nun seinen Anwendungsfall in kleine Schritte (Zellen) wird ein komplexes Thema schon viel einfacher.

vorstellen.
DuckDB (https://duckdb.org) könnte Euch dann interessieren wenn ihr:

- in der IT (#Softwareentwicklung, Datenanalyse #Olap, Qualitätssicherung, Forschung, etc ) arbeitet
- privat an Datenanlyse jenseits von unübesichtlichen Tabellen (#Spreadsheets) interessiert seid
- Daten wie Kontoauszüge, Telefonbücher oder (elektronische) Kataloge durchforsten wollt

DuckDB kann als eigenständiges Kommandozeilen (#CLI) Programm ohne Abhängigkeiten bezogen und verwendet werden oder auch intergriert in andere #programmiersprachen (#python) oder #tools wie #jupyter integriert werden.

Die CLI-Version kann mit Parameter "-ui" verwendet werden und startet damit ein recht komfortables #webui im lokalen #browser.
Im ersten Schritt legt man nun ein "Notebook" an das zellenweise strukturiert ist.
Es können jederzeit neue Zellen an jeder Stelle im #workflow hinzugefügt, eingefügt oder gelöscht werden.
Unterteilt man nun seinen Anwendungsfall in kleine Schritte (Zellen) wird ein komplexes Thema schon viel einfacher.

Well, last night I downloaded a copy of Lotus 1-2-3 to my blank hard drive. Which I've previously put Linux on and took off. Which I put a copy of Windows 98 and Office 98 on. Which I just put random 90s programs on to relive my nerdy, isolationist childhood.

So...relatively fun for an information systems analyst.

Yet again I plead to the #Fediverse to get #Fedihired as a paid or unpaid #DataAnalyst #intern. I'm not formally trained but (as uncomfortable as it is for me to boast) I truly feel that I have the cognitive *capability* of learning as I go. I want to see whether I actually *can* do so.

Unfortunately I'm guessing this is probably the worst possible time to try and break into the industry, however I am desperate and hoping for a miracle.

I've always been "self-taught" because I've never been an ideal student. It's how I learned to program #PHP, #SQL, and how I learned to work with #spreadsheets.

I might not be an expert with any of those topics but I usually managed to stumble my way through, and accomplish the goal I needed, serving my purpose for a previous employer for 8½ years, until their financial position necessitated my layoff.

I need real-life experience working with #Data and hopefully build a portfolio I can use for #gig work or a job or something.

So I'm reaching out to #selfemployed any #Data experts to ask if they might need help. Let me take a stab at some non-critical things.

If I suck, you're not out more than just a little bit of your time interacting with me; you were going to do it yourself anyway, right?

If I do it *well*, then you just got free labor, I get experience and potential portfolio fodder.

Plus you get the sense of pride from helping someone struggling to survive, and helping a #neurodivergent, #LGBTQ couple who both struggle with #MentalIllness and #poverty.

Obviously I will take *paid* work as well; remember, #MinimumWage in my state is still a measly seven dollars and twenty-five goddamned cents per hour, so you can go super cheap.

Think of it like you're rummaging through the bargain bin for temp workers and you decide to give some no-name brand a try: Me!!

In my experience, the #LibreOffice Calc "VALUEDATE" function can't parse most date text string formats that #Gnumeric, #Excel, Google Sheets (and even Apple's "Numbers" app, apparently) can handle.

I was quite surprised to not be able to find an existing bug report about this, so I filed one, and have to convince people that being able to parse different date formats is a nice thing for that parsing function to be able to do: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170107
