My skepticism about Swiss astronomer Fritz Zwicki coining the term "spherical bastard," was the result of my distracted skimming of the social media post where I first saw it.
Zwicky wasn't using the term in reference to a celestial phenomenon, but to some of his astronomer colleagues, of whom he famously said, “Astronomers are spherical bastards. No matter how you look at them they are just bastards.”
Not having attended space camp, my knowledge of this famous quip was nonexistent until today.
