Not precisely the same thing, but related: a favourite artwork of mine is "The Ghost in the MP3" by Ryan Maguire in 2015, which reconstructs the "sound" of the encoding loss of the MP3 compression algorithm, using the Suzanne Vega hit "Tom's Diner"—reference data for MP3 conformance testing.
