One of the routes through the sand dunes at South Shields' Littlehaven Beach.
In the distance, the Tynemouth Pier and lighthouse where the waters of Tyne meet the North Sea.
Always reminds me of one of the scenes in the film adaptation of the BBC TV comedy series 'The Likely Lads'.
Aware that some reading this might be a bit too young to have been around when the series was aired on TV and never seen the film, the storyline generally follows the lives and friendship of two young working class men, Terry Collier (James Bolam) and Bob Ferris (Rodney Bewes).
In the movie adaptation, there is a scene filmed on the pier where Bob and Terry are chatting about the future direction of their lives.
Bob turns to Terry and memorably remarks: "In the chocolate box of life, the top layer's already gone."
He briefly pauses, then adds: "And someone's pinched the orange creme from the bottom!"

Viewed from #SouthShields in the evening sunshine, #NorthShields has a distinctly Baltic look about it (apologies for the slightly cock-eyed horizon)

In case anyone else was wondering, the inclined lifts in the Tyne Pedestrian and cyclist tunnel still aren't working.

And judging from the doors at either end, my #CargoBike won't fit in them even when they are running.

Had a really nice day taking the kids in the #CargoBike down to South Shields.
A relief to confirm it does fit on the Shields ferry - the conductor slid the door open wider and there was loads of space inside.
We went to The Word and then along the seafront, but got a puncture on the way back! Fortunately, I managed to push it to AS Cycles, which turns out to be a really good old-fashioned shop, and got back on the road in no time, now with a spare inner tube and pump in the bucket.
Getting back up the hill from Tynemouth pier was a struggle, but with the kids chanting "you can do it" (and full motor assist) I did it!
Used just over half the battery, over 30km.

I posted a shot earlier of the great Sir Mo Farrah taking part in today's Great North Run in North East England. Here's a salute to those who not only do the run, but dress up too (they must be mad!).
The run started in spectacular warm sunshine, but ended in an a spectacular thunderstorm.
