I recently filed a support case with #Okta in which I made three suggestions to them for minor but noticeable improvements to their SSO browser extension.
In response, the support rep told me I should submit my suggestions to the "ideas" section in the Okta Help Center.
This is annoying and dumb.

Software Quality Is a System, Not an Act.
Quality isn't a final inspection step you bolt on before release. It's the cumulative result of dozens of small, boring, automated decisions that happen on every commit, or not at all.
My latest article makes it concrete: the real quality pipeline of nurago, my open-source collection of production Go packages. Everything is public and runnable with a single command.

📜✨ Behold, the grand treatise on software quality! After a trip through the philosophical fog of "absence of problems," we're left pondering if 100 experts are really just a euphemism for "still no clue." 🤔 Spoiler: quality isn't scalable—unless you count endless meetings about it! 🚀

1/ Your component screenshot tests are all green, but your app might still have visual issues.
Both component and screen tests share the same goal, improving visual quality, but they serve different purposes:
• A component test verifies one building block in isolation.
• A screen test verifies how those blocks live together: placement, padding, alignment, and how everything looks across phones, foldables, and tablets.#AndroidDev #ScreenshotTesting #MobileTesting #SoftwareQuality

What if a defect in your system is actually a missing test? The Saff Squeeze technique helps you find both the defect and the missing test. A practical approach to debugging that leaves your codebase stronger.

Zigbee devices, whilst ostensibly easier to deal with (no apps for Bluetooth pairing, no stray wifi credentials) have a teensy flaw: it turns out that they, in general, are absolute bog arse for software quality.
Case in point: luminance sensor A says 2050lx just now. Sensor B says 45lx. They are, of course, sat next to each other, pointing at the same window.
Case in point: Roller blind controller says its surrounding temperature is 60ºC. I assure you it is not - this room is a warmish 19ºC.

Spent an hour today reviewing code the AI agents wrote this week. More drift than I expected. Not wrong, just... inconsistent. Conventions slowly becoming suggestions.

Discover how #Meta improved #SoftwareQuality with a Just-in-Time (JiT) testing approach that dynamically generates tests during code review.
The system increases bug detection by approx 4x in AI-assisted development using LLMs, mutation testing, and intent-aware workflows like Dodgy Diff.

It’s striking how many organisations still struggle to identify quality problems as early as possible. I always find it fascinating what these older books can still teach us. It’s a reminder that while technology evolves, the fundamentals of good software engineering remain timeless. Perhaps the real challenge isn’t learning new tools, but remembering the lessons we’ve already been taught. (2/2)

A while back, I was fortunate enough to find a second-hand copy of *Object-Oriented Software Engineering: A Use Case Driven Approach* which was almost as good as new. First published in 1992, the knowledge it contains remains remarkably relevant today. For example, I came across this paragraph:

In contrast, consider a team that is focused on preventing defects in the first place. They rigorously apply techniques like TDD, ATDD, and BDD to accomplish this. Whenever a defect does slip through, the team pauses all other work and addresses it immediately. This reflects a fundamentally different mindset: no reliance on bug-tracking tools, and no time wasted on defect reporting. But more importantly, a focus on building in quality. (2/2)

The way a team handles defects reveals much about how their organisation approaches quality. When every defect must be added to a sprawling backlog with excruciatingly detailed information, it often signals a codebase burdened by technical debt and a product suffering from the consequences of that. Some of these defects may (or may never) be fixed in so-called “stabilisation sprints.” (1/2)

Let’s be real: Most people think our job is just finding bugs.
But for those of us in the trenches, it’s much deeper than that. It’s a mix of psychology, strategy, and a relentless empathy for the person on the other side of the screen.
When we talk about 30 QA Terms, we aren't just reciting a textbook. We are using a shared language to protect the product.
