Sociological Record - A Photo Series by Zofia Rydet
In 1978, artist Zofia Rydet set out on a mission to photograph every house in her native Poland. Of course she knew it was impossible, Rydet was already 67 years old, so she needed to work quickly and obsessively. Her method was simple - knock on the door, say hello and shake hands.
“I need to take photos immediately — it’s like an addiction, like vodka for an alcoholic.”
By the time of her death in 1997, Rydet had knocked on at least 20,000 doors - and many of her negatives had never been developed.
