WIP progress! Fic intro to celebrate:
The fully blackened protagonist Luo Binghe walks in on him holding the tiny plush version of his white lotus.
Okay.
Not okay.
There's a totally reasonable explanation for this.
[how SQQ got the doll]
None of this totally understandable and reasonable backstory helps him right here and now, when the fully blackened stallion Luo Bingge has just walked in on him burying his face in the little plushie's hair.
He thought it was Liu Qingge knocking. Still embarrassing, but the man did know about the doll after barging into the bamboo house. He had called out to wait, but not been entirely surprised when he heard the door open anyway. Liu Qingge can hardly be accused of having manners after all.
He had called for Liu Shidi to wait, to give him a moment to be decent. Liu Qingge might know about his doll, but that didn't mean he wanted to be caught like this.
That had not stopped Luo Binghe.
So. Here they are. Shen Qingqiu scrambling to cover the incriminating features, the hair, the star filled eyes, the itty bitty Guanyin. Shen Qingqiu panicked over being caught with his plush. Shen Qingqiu frantic over being caught by the rightfully vengeful Bingge. Shen Qingqiu fumbling to— Shen Qingqiu fumbled it.
He dropped it.
He fucking dropped it.
Right in front of the protagonist's eyes, he dropped it and it bounced and rolled and came to a stop just rocking there on its' back. Every single recognizable feature incriminating him.
Shit.
Fuck!
Of all the damned shitty fucking timing!

CW: long (ish), nsfw mentions
I'm tired and want to share a joke but also want to save it for an authors' note whenever I get the next chapter of #DuetForATrio out...
In the meantime this isn't quite #snippery but here's a brainstorm list of things for the system's premium store here:
miku edition melon soda
mode unlocks (expensive)
caffeine pills
condoms
save files (prohibitively expensive)
maid outfits
candy bars
energy drinks
beach episode scenario pusher
HRT (whatever that is, SQQ doesn't recognize the acronym)
xianxia HRT
ramen packets (tempting for the nostalgia factor, but he'd deserve the Binghe-murder if he passed up protagonist cooking for that)
1:1 scale heavenly pillar dildo
clock app
a fuckin' pedometer
modern pregnancy tests
more inventory slots
viagra

CW: nsfw, hualian fic snippet and image/s
#snippery hualian first time in which Xie Lian backs out partly through and they still have a good time. Also could not resist sketching it. I liked Xie Lian's face better in the first version, but forgot he's naked here.
"Dianxia?" He can't help ducking, trying to get a better view of Xie Lian's lowered, extremely red, face. All he sees is embarrassment, and the splinters that were ready to raise in his heart fall seamless back into place. He sees the moment Xie Lian notices that his current gaze puts his own naked cock in full view and the momentary blank that passes before Xie Lian turns his face to look aside, blush deepening.

#Snippery trying to work on that non-angst hanahaki AU and this feels so melodramatic, but also right?
The ghost emerges from the kiln without an ounce of air left in his lungs. He is a city of flowers. Hua Cheng.

CW: fictional violence
#Snippery wishing English had grammatical gender for animacy. Hua Cheng in Tonglu.
Every kill is consumption, destroying the remains of a thing that used to be a person, without becoming an object, a process, hot and impersonal as a fire. A thing cannot worship, so he must be himself.

In honor of #wipWednesday have before and after of my notes and the written scene of this Kneel for me Baby #Snippery (After is in replies due to character limit)
:tiredcat: Before:
The next interruption is Xie Lian’s fault. Request. Something like that. He’s too busy listening to think of the right word.[They stumble into a busker telling stories along a street, and the subject is the great lord Chengzhu, and Xie Lian is like, I gotta hear this, hush Hong Hong’er and HC just sits there pouting and a little afraid of what Xie Lian is going to think of this guy talking up the city lord crimson rain the red calamity scourge of heaven as a wild and violent man so powerful none can stand against him! Everyone knows the tale of the 33 gods, but have you heard of [either absolute bullshit or cracking down on injustice/unfair dealing]]
[XL asks leading questions, getting the busker to keep talking up Chengzhu while HC tries to disappear against his leg.] [HC finally breaks when the busker tries to move on to how desirable Chengzhu is, why no one can agree what his preferences are, very mysterious and attractive. HC tugs at XL’s sleeve and whines “Gege…” and XL takes mercy on him.]

Kneel for me Baby #Snippery getting so close to my first run through the outline being finished! Less than 200 words of outline left! My personal excitement apparently comes out through sharing snippets now
Next morning, plush cradle of the bed feeling like a dream, he can’t make out the line between sleep and waking. Slowly, it comes to him that he isn’t curled around San Lang anymore. That is strange. San Lang doesn’t move much, sleeps like the dead in fact. Xie Lian huffs an almost-giggle at his own joke. Hm. His face is up against something, air pushed back against him from the laugh.
He opens his eyes to red. After a couple blinks, he does not find this surprising. San Lang’s bedroom was very red after all. He isn’t quite awake enough to figure out what this is though, safe and warm and held like this. His gaze drifts, following curves and folds of fabric, finding a seam, a neckline, a face.
A face.
Xie Lian feels the need to blink again.
And again.
He went to sleep holding a small version of San Lang. He has woken up with a large version of San Lang holding him. He thinks he’s supposed to feel surprised about this.
… Unlike the past eight centuries, these unexpected conditions on waking can wait until he’s had more sleep.

more Kneel for me Baby #snippery
“It’s almost like getting to keep Hong’er safe like I should have in the first place. It was nice.” He clears his throat again. “But if San Lang doesn’t want–“
“San Lang wants!”
The man in a boy’s form promptly slams his eyes shut and looks away. Probably embarrassed about how childish that sounded given the topic of conversation and especially so given how collected San Lang usually is. Xie Lian understands that, but it doesn’t stop him from finding it adorable.

It's only two fics so far but somehow this feels like a "make Hua Cheng cry" agenda. Anyway, more #snippery for Kneel for me Baby
[Xie Lian talking about Wu Ming]
Small hands take away his cup, ghostly chill nearly indistinguishable from the cold tea.
“He should have had a chance to be happy.” He manages to say it without letting his voice break.
A chill wraps around him, just the size of San Lang. He pulls back in shock. San Lang hasn’t spoken in a while, but now he sees San Lang isn’t even breathing as tears stream from one eye. The detail snags, catches on the memory of bandages, but–
“What’s wrong?” Panic reshaping his voice to strength. “San Lang?”
The ghost opens his mouth, tries to take a breath to speak and–
San Lang sobs. Full voiced and wet and that’s why the ghost wasn’t breathing wasn’t it?

different sneak peek. 5+1 hualian meeting near misses, extra cursed object ideas that may or may not make it into the fic as more stock in the ghost city cursed object traders' stock. Not quite a snippet but I'm sticking it in #snippery anyway.
Chopsticks that burn any food you stick them in if put in upright like incense
A writing brush that should have been ritually burned ages ago and bites your fingers when you pick it up
Chipped teacup that gives you indigestion, Xie Lian has been using it anyway
Crumpled up Ju Yang Big Dick protection charm that Jian Lan cursed to make any guy in possession of it unable to get erect
Torn sandal that'll make you roll your ankle if you just touch it
Look. A scrap is a scrap. That this one was a lady's chest garment means nothing to him, but it might make someone with lascivious intentions act drunk
Shingle, when buried under a house will cause people in it to stub their toes and or hit their thumbs with hammers etc.
Needle that makes any garment it passes through uncomfortably itchy
Broom that always gives you splinters despite the shaft looking and feeling perfectly smooth

#HuaLian #snippery start of the last planned scene in the bad CPR fic :blobcatcoffee:
In the aftermath, Hua Cheng asleep on the floor, E-Ming still trembling in his hands, Xie Lian knows he will admit everything to his ghost. He just wishes he could find the words to do it with. Each phrase he tries slips out of his mind with a remembered touch, taste, caress.
The words still aren’t there when Hua Cheng wakes, and Xie Lian panics. He sees the confusion rising, furrowing brow, breath taken for speech. Before a single question can be asked, he blurts it out.
“We… fought.”
He flinches.
It isn’t even a convincing lie.
-
The cold of the dirt starts to seep through his clothes, faster with twice the weight pressing him into damp earth.
Xie Lian doesn’t want to make the first move, doesn’t want to lose this grounding, this weight, this wordless comfort. Though, Hua Cheng seems equally unwilling to disturb him, breath evened and stopped after their earlier ardor. It makes the moment feel stopped, his own breaths unstuck from the hum of the world around them. Leaves in wind, little lives played chirping in the dark, the stars in their tracks singing silent on.
The thought that finally moves him is of anticipated guilt in Hua Cheng’s eye if he begins to shiver here. Once was more than enough. Xie Lian may have slept in colder, but this ghost, this wonderful man, would never want him to.

I had an idea about the bad CPR kiss. So, #snippery
Not breathing.
The sand sticks and rubs underneath him, grains working through the rough weave of fabric to his skin.
Not breathing.
He’s not alone of course, he’s only back here on the beach at all because of–
Not breathing.
San Lang isn’t breathing.
Xie Lian has to do something. What can he do? He’s been around for eight hundred years, he has to know how to do something.
Xie Lian doesn’t like to spend time by the water. Not only is bad luck and open water a particularly terrible combination, it brings up bad memories. It brings up a bay, and a dark storm, and the most final loneliness.
Xie Lian knows people can be saved from drowning. Knows stories about the kiss of life. He’s not seen it done.
Surely whatever he can do is better than doing nothing.
The resolution leaves him with actually carrying out the decision. It’s not the first time their lips have touched. This will be fine. It’s not the first time air will have passed between them. If San Lang could do it, so can Xie Lian.
He just has to… do it.
Xie Lian doesn’t even know if San Lang would want such a thing, much less from him. It’s not like he can ask permission either.
Forgiveness it is.
“Please forgive me San Lang.” Xie Lian claps his hands together and bows hurriedly. San Lang doesn’t even twitch at his preemptive apology.
