Ukrainian champion fencer #Kharlan disqualified from world #fencing championships after refusing to shake her #Russian opponent's hand.
4-time Olympic medallist beat "neutral" Russian #Smirnova, but offered to tap swords rather than handshake, which was used as an alternative to handshakes at fencing competitions during the coronavirus pandemic.
Smirnova refused to leave after the bout for more than 50min, sitting on the piste in an apparent protest.
