After #Ukraine's women’s saber fencing team won its first gold at 2024 Olympics on Aug. 3, saber fencer Olga #Kharlan becomes the most decorated Olympian in Ukraine’s history by medal count.
Ukraine has so far won three medals at the #Paris #Olympics.
Kharlan's achievements now include two gold medals, a 2016 silver medal in team events, along with three individual bronze medals (2012, 2016, 2024).

4-time Olympic medallist beat "neutral" Russian #Smirnova, but offered to tap swords rather than handshake, which was used as an alternative to handshakes at fencing competitions during the coronavirus pandemic.
Smirnova refused to leave after the bout for more than 50min, sitting on the piste in an apparent protest.

Wow, das Video hat irgendwie eine beeindruckende Stärke: Olga #Kharlan (UKR) verweigert Anna Smirnowa (RUS / "neutral") den Handschlag und hält sie stattdessen mit dem Säbel auf Distanz.

Und wiedermal solidarisert sich ein Sportverband mit den Tätern, statt mit den Opfern. Mit ihrer Inszenierung zeigte die Russin doch ganz genau, wie sie zum #Ukrainekrieg steht. Sie hätte statt #Kharlan disqualifiziert werden müssen, wenn die #FIE ihre eigenen Regeln zum Umgang mit russischen Sportler*innen auch nur ansatzweise ernst nimmt!
