I’m not in the know with Irish, British, Scottish, Welsh and other traditional music. I never really read the thick booklets that come with all the, for example, Topic and Smithsonian Records releases. Sometimes I start reading while listening but always the sounds take over my focus. But long story short, I really enjoy listening to it and doing so for many years now. There’s so much joy, sorrow, pain and so on in it. A sense of community, living life celebrated through music.
Rooted in traditions the “Bottlenecks and Armbreakers” record from Session A9 is a real fun party with some melancholy throw in now and then for good measures. This album just lifts you up. Fantastic musicians playing their ass off. They seem to be having a great time together. All this is really infectious when you’re listening to the album. A wonderful joyous affair. I had a great time with this record while at work. Another cool discovery thanks to the 1001 Other Albums list.
