  1. Pokemon Go removed Incubators from their game shop here in Brazil, because to keep selling them they would have to fully disclose the hatch chances for each egg. This shows how much of a gamble mechanic Egg Hatching is and how much it is important for the business to keep it hidden that they decided to cut a whole market instead of being honest about it.

Just imagine how much money Incubators make for them.

  4. How many times will I see the Pokémon GO 'news' about location data being shared with Vantor even after Niantic responded to it?

The company was sold to Scopely over a year and a half ago, the data has been owned by a Saudi company for that long, people agreed to share their data from the very start, and the damn AR feature that collected the specific data set isn't even in the game anymore.

Sigh. Even in the Fediverse, 'shocking' headlines seem to be more relevant than reading through articles and informing oneself.

    I'm tired.

Kotaku summarized it quite well: kotaku.com/pokemon-go-niantic-

  12. If I had my druthers and was still in the tech journalism/games space, I'd figure out a way to do an insider's look at Scopely to understand why Star Trek: Fleet Command is so consistently technically ratfucked.

I don't think a month has gone by in the past three years or so where they're not awarding compensation chests to players for broken features or unexpected maintenance problems, or posting contrite apologies for overpromising and underdelivering.

  17. Does anyone know a #Scopely dev?

Just curious if they are very underpaid and overworked or what’s going on over there that they keep breaking everything over on #STFC. Like, I’m genuinely interested in their working conditions, and how it came to be like that on a game that clearly generates a lot of revenue? There must be some interesting constraints in their development.

21. #SaudiArabia Buys #PokémonGo , and Probably All of Your Location Data

The companies’ collective blogs make it seem like #NianticSpatial —a data business—is going to become a totally separate entity, but Scopely’s direct, $50 million investment in it suggests that monetizing #Pokémon Go players’ location data and #AR camera scanning data is very much still part of the plan.

  23. Why is Niantic Selling Pokemon Go? To Jump on the AI Bandwagon of Course!

It slipped out last week that Niantic was in talks to sell their one and only massive success as a company to Scopely, who runs titles like Marvel Strike Force and Star Trek Fleet Command.  Players were immediately concerned about what impact that might have on Pokemon Go, as though one exploitive publisher would be more than a degree or two different from another.
