Someone sent me some busted Microvisions for me to fix up. The very first handheld game system with interchangeable game Cartridges.
I'd never seen one before, but now they're good as new!

Here's a heart-shaped tape drive belt for you 😄. Wanted to fix a #Datassette for a friend quickly, so I replaced the belt and tried to align the azimut, but as it turns out, this little fella seems to have problems transmitting data reliably. I've never seen this before, but sometimes it will read something (as the align tool indicates to me onscreen), but then again it will not output any signals the next time I turn it on, although the drive is working, the spools are spinning and so on. After a few tries, it works again - until it doesn't. Impossible to align and test it in that condition. Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing it?

Since doing tech on my channel, I’ve had an overhead camera to get a view in on what I’m working on. I decided recently to change from an old Hard Drive camcorder to my old S21 Ultra. Well, that lasted 1 filming. Sure the S21 has a better camera but I hate it. It’s overly complex for my needs and I can’t see the screen. Alright. RGB mod was not successful and I’ve not had 2 sec to deal with it. This weekend I’m gonna troubleshoot it one last time and then try and get a video on whether it was successful or failed. Not every video needs to be about success, right? Today I'm going to refurbish the second of three #C64 that are still waiting for repair. When I got this one, it was quite dirty and with permanent marker text on the back. It was sold as defective because it showed no picture, which I could already fix by replacing the VIC. I also already cleaned the case, and fully disassembled and cleaned the keyboard. (Photo shows the "before" state, of course. 😉​ )

Next step: Recapping, and replacing the 7805 with a DC/DC converter.

Well, it has been a while. Quick update. I'm going to work through the last video on the #nintendo64 repair project, but it will be ending on a sad note. Despite a new, genuine cart slot, it is still not loading most carts. I'll put it in its new shell but I'm not planning on investing more time or money repairing it. A good friend of mine, Steven, was kind enough to get me a desoldering station after my last video. I’ve also found a replacement cart connector for the Nintendo 64. With the new gear I’m planning on setting up a new workbench that isn’t my main desk so I’m more inclined to do work. Honestly, I’m struggling with my current video. It hasn’t gone well. Just, something simple has not worked. It’s an RGB Mod for N64. So those who do follow me and are wondering why I haven’t released a video, it’s because I’m not happy and not had the right headspace to get it over the line.

Honestly, when I ordered this from AliExpress for around $40AUD I was expecting just some shell thrown together in a generic bag or, actually, I really didn’t know what to expect.

What I wasn’t expecting was extremely well packaged, protected and in a spiffy retail looking box. I’m impressed.

Turns out it wasn't my repair after all, I switched the TV input from S-Video to composite at some point... 🤦
Also, Z80 and one VIA was broken.
It looks like I have a working #C128 now :-)
