  1. Another Reedsy update. Received an email stating my 50,000 word challenge has been noted and the three months of pro account starts tomorrow. Not sure if I’ll use it or move my writing over to Scrivener and carry on.

Also got instructions on how to enter their writing contest by submitting the first chapter. Wild to submit speed written rough drafts but ok. I did it. I’m curious to see what they pick.

  2. As for the Reedsy studio app for writing, I have had some issues with not being able to access the site off and on. Word counts often require reloading web page to get it to update. Liked the daily check-ins and the goal setting sections. Never ended up using the planning sections. I missed Scrivener’s side-by-side view. I’m undecided on whether or not I will continue to use it.

  3. Wiele lat byłam tłumaczką. Współpracowałam z National Geographic i wydawnictwami książkowymi.

Gdy zbiór tekstów dochodzi do objętości książkowej, robię ebook i daję do druku (selfpublishing).

  4. Proclaiming Our Intentions

In Publishing News this week. After nine years in operation and beginning the modern serial publishing format Radish has announced they are closing their doors at the end of the year. Commentators have been noting the quiet demise of serial format sites lately. Many have linked it…

  6. #Reedsy - Online manuscript editor & collaboration hub.
Pros: Free. Easy to get started, formatting & export is simple, easy and clean. Fantastic collaboration/commenting options for editing.
Cons: No dark mode, multiple drafts are awkward, company embraces GenAI, no offline sync (you have to export/download everything manually)

  7. I recently decided to try out a bunch of different writing tools to see what worked for me.

I tried out seven different Word Processing / Manuscript Editing options and wanted to give my thoughts and reviews of each of the following:

    #Obsidian
    #Ellipsus
    #Reedsy
    #WorldAnvil
    #Scrivener
    #LibreOffice
    #GoogleDocs

I did not review Microsoft Word - it has enough written about it on the internet already.

Hey, that's a topic I can speak to with some (limited) authority! Not the marketing stuff, as much - I'm terrible at that - but the typesetting. I just finished doing a review of six of the PC tools available for word processing and manuscript editing. I should probably do individual posts for each, but to skip to the end, I'll say that in terms of Typesetting, #Reedsy and #Scrivener are my current two favorites.

  9. I wish there were a way to organize books into folders on #Reedsy, because I have a *lot* of books created and it’s annoying having different series all mixed together

  10. Not sure whether anybody here would really fall for this, but just in case: If a writing platform wants to charge you $1,250 for a "How to write a novel" course that mostly consists of pre-taped videos with the same advice already covered by numerous books, podcasts, YT videos etc., this has "naive-newbie exploitation" written all over it.

If you have that kind of money lying around, paying for 1-on-1 sessions with an editor/mentor will be a much better investment.

  11. A quick short story from me that asks… "Is brain surgery actually that hard?" In response to a prompt competition from #reedsy

  12. PSA: If you're a #writer hiring a book editor on a middleman site (like #Reedsy) also google to see if that editor has an indie business website, and then contract with them directly. You won't pay the +10% fee and neither will your editor.

  13. Not sure who needs to hear this, but if you're a #writer hiring a book editor on Reedsy, also google to see if that editor has an indie business website, and contract with them directly. You won't pay the +10% fee.

#Reedsy is fine, but the site dominates most searches because (I suspect) they can afford to pay to show up first. And middle entities make the most money for the least work, which rankles.
