La Fórmula 1 salió de Miami con una conclusión clara: la temporada 2026 ya dejó de ser territorio exclusivo de Max Verstappen. El Gran Premio disputado el pasado 3 de mayo en el circuito urbano de Florida confirmó que la categoría atraviesa una transición generacional y competitiva que empieza a modificar el orden habitual de los últimos años.
El gran protagonista fue Kimi Antonelli. El joven piloto de Mercedes consiguió su tercera victoria consecutiva y consolidó su liderato en el campeonato mundial, en una actuación que dejó algo más importante que el resultado: mostró madurez, control de carrera y capacidad para resistir la presión de pilotos mucho más experimentados.
Detrás del italiano aparecieron los dos McLaren de Lando Norris y Oscar Piastri, quienes terminaron segundo y tercero respectivamente, confirmando que la escudería británica ya no es únicamente competitiva en clasificación o en carreras sprint, sino también en ritmo largo.
Y quizá ahí estuvo una de las grandes sorpresas del fin de semana: McLaren fue el equipo más consistente en términos generales. Norris ganó el sprint del sábado y el domingo volvió a mostrarse agresivo y competitivo, mientras Piastri cerró fuerte para subir al podio.
En contraste, Red Bull dejó dudas importantes. Max Verstappen finalizó quinto, lejos del dominio al que había acostumbrado la categoría en temporadas recientes. El neerlandés sufrió desgaste de neumáticos, problemas de ritmo y una presión constante por parte de McLaren y Ferrari quien, por su parte, volvió a quedarse a medias.
Charles Leclerc parecía encaminado al podio, pero un error en las vueltas finales terminó relegándolo al sexto puesto, mientras Lewis Hamilton apenas pudo rescatar la séptima posición.
También hubo señales interesantes en la zona media. El argentino Franco Colapinto logró puntos importantes con Alpine al finalizar octavo, mientras Carlos Sainz Jr. volvió a sumar para Williams con un noveno lugar que mantiene viva la evolución del equipo británico.
Miami dejó además un mensaje técnico importante: Mercedes parece haber encontrado estabilidad en su monoplaza. La escudería alemana ya no depende exclusivamente de circunstancias de carrera; ahora tiene velocidad real, estrategia sólida y un piloto que atraviesa un momento extraordinario. El crecimiento de Antonelli empieza incluso a modificar la conversación interna del campeonato, porque hoy luce más consistente que varios campeones consolidados.
Ahora bien, el siguiente capítulo será el Gran Premio de Canadá, del 22 al 24 de mayo, y ahí podríamos ver un escenario distinto. El circuito Gilles Villeneuve históricamente favorece autos con buena velocidad punta y estabilidad en frenadas fuertes, condiciones que podrían beneficiar nuevamente a Red Bull y a Verstappen. Sin embargo, si McLaren mantiene el ritmo mostrado en Miami, Norris y Piastri llegarán con argumentos reales para pelear la victoria.
Mercedes también será observado con atención. Lo ocurrido en Miami puede representar el inicio de una era distinta… o simplemente un gran momento circunstancial. Canadá será la verdadera prueba para saber si Antonelli está listo para sostener una candidatura seria al campeonato.
La sensación hoy es que la Fórmula 1 volvió a abrirse. Después de años marcados por hegemonías muy claras, Miami ofreció algo que el campeonato necesitaba: incertidumbre.
Y cuando la Fórmula 1 recupera la incertidumbre, recupera también buena parte de su esencia.
