Phishers Liebling: Transaktionale E-Mail

Hot Take: E-Mail-Weiterleitungen sind immer Grütze.

But, after all that, the SQLite database from my mail server (which holds all my mail) is now continuously replicating to an offsite backup and the backup restores correctly. Hopefully, this means that if the machine goes down or the database gets corrupted I’ll lose, at most, 15 seconds worth of data (mail) rather than 24-hours as per my previous backup routine.

Setting up streaming replication was more of an adventure than I anticipated. Not only did it involve the expected database shenanigans, but it also required
- Battling with not standard chroots and internal-sftp
- Fiddling with the MTU on both ends of my link
- Applying a patch to litestream
- Downloading two different versions of go so that I can compile the binary on two machines running different architecture
- Buying more disk space on my VPS and expanding my LVM partition.

I am THIS close to fully blocking all IP ranges from AS11377 (Sendgrid) on my mailserver as the only thing they are sending my way is Trezor phishing mails. Fellow #postmaster #mailAdmin how do you treat them?

Came across an e-mail server Mox by @mjl written in :golang: Any fediversians using it? :blobcatthinkowo:
Must admit I've been using Exim and Postfix driven e-mail setups for more than two decades, therefore curious to explore a different server, which code I can actually read and understand well :ablobcatbongokeyboard:
Will be setting up a machine to try Mox out :blobcatdonutnom:

https://www.caliandro.de/blog/Zusammenspiel_Postfix_DKIM_SPF_DMARC_Mailinglisten.html

DKIM Fachfrage an Postmaster:innen

Sounds about right
At #Trump’s urging, #USPS board to name #Waste Management official David Steiner as #postmaster general.
Steiner replaces Louis DeJoy, whom Trump forced out of the role in March amid the mail chief’s clashes with billionaire #ElonMusk’s #DOGE.

Louis #DeJoy #Resigns as #Postmaster General 🤔
His sudden departure comes after he struck an agreement earlier this month to allow Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency inside the USPS to cut costs and remove bureaucratic red tape.

Added *.sa.com and *.za.com to the blocklist of my mailserver. AFAICS they only send spam around and have become quite active in the past few days. #postmaster life :) (UPDATE: more precise regex)

A very odd email hit my catch-all today. Someone on an iphone claimed they 'clicked on my email' and could not get out of the send email dialog.
The first confusing part is, well, The account they replied to *did not* exist (hence why it hit the catch-all)
The second part is, It was addressed to an account that *DOES* exist on mastodon
There was no reply block to know what email they were referring to, so I have no idea what was going on, but I have two theories:
1. Someone is sending spam mail using scraped fedi handles. Not unlikely, but, the recipient was a gmail address, so, the likelyhood of that ending up *NOT* in spam is very low
2. The Iphone mail client incorrectly highlights fedi handles as emails, and an accidental tap summoned the send *new* email dialog. The only caveat for this one is that the fedi user in question hasn't been online in over a week, and hasn't posted in two weeks, So it would be weird for someone to get an email about them.
Regardless, I figured this would interest some of you out there, feel free to reply with your wildest theories.

Mad props to the #telekom #postmaster, got my mail server IP unblocked with less than 20 mins response time 👍

Time Magazine, which tends to lean left, opened my eyes about this guy. I say keep him and let him finish the job. What say you?

@stilgherrian .10% x 5000 is 5 spam reports. A competitor could easily put you in the danger zone by reporting you from five gmail accounts. So just that right there is incentive enough to opt-in to #Google's services.
I haven't looked deep into the #Postmaster tool, but just using history as a guide, I'm certain it collects data.
#AOL tried to pull something similar and people rightfully revolted. It was an anti-competitive weaponization of security.
