  1. it all counts

    a scientist
    uses math
    (which counts
    things) to help
    visualize
    invisible
    verifiable things
    even things
    that cannot be
    yet verified
    by touch (counting
    for real) instead
    metaphysically
    represented in
    quantities of 123
    where infinity
    which might
    as well be
    nothingness
    as the Answer indicates
    Error or
    rather unknown
    or trickier
    (motion)

  3. Upstairs

sometimes I live a little too much upstairs
    and by upstairs I mean
    in my head

  4. It’s been years since I listened

    to that song
I’ve wondered what it was called
    or how the chorus went
the words were fuzzy like mittens
in the back of the closet
what was crystal in my mind
    was the way I felt
belting it out as I drove
    with the windows down
and the wind carrying away the pressure
to be accurate so I could focus
on pouring out what was bottled up
I knew from the guitar and the choir
    clapping the beat
    just before the first words
    dropped from her mouth
that I was going back to My Church
and I was singing along with a friend
    I’ve never met

  5. Vigil

    A candle snuffed,
    its wick is curled.
    A puff of smoke
    in air unfurled.

    There at the tip,
    the faintest spark
    in spirit red
    to spite the dark.

  6. In my falling heart
I pluck a wise old green peach —
    Fruit bears fruit inside

    (I couldn’t find green peaches.)

“Green Peach” (桃青 Tōsē) was a pen name of Matsuo Bashō, the 17th century Edo-period Japanese poet who practically defined the classical haiku.
