All Saints
A #poetry thread—
i.
I sit in a Gothic cathedral
of stone tracery,
late medieval
with things we can't see.On this night of All Saints’,
their many souls gathered ’round,
flitting in shadows, faint
and making no soundthat could be discerned
by physical ears
except by those who’ve learned
to listen with tears.🧵👇🏼

"Remember" by Joy Harjo--excerpt.
"Remember the earth whose skin you are:
red earth, black earth, yellow earth, white earth
brown earth, we are earth.
Remember the plants, trees, animal life who all have their
tribes, their families, their histories, too. Talk to them,
listen to them. They are alive poems."https://www.ayearofbeinghere.com/2014/11/joy-harjo-remember.html

The bridge once broken
A #poem (🧵6/6)Now on this day of all souls missed
by those who find themselves left behind,
one faithful departed returns to kiss
the forehead of a son’s reopened mind.[end]

The bridge once broken
A #poem (🧵5/6)Across the valley, dark, deep, and wide,
a spectral stretch of stones appears
to shine as a silvery coach now rides
across, to bring two sundered shadows near.👇🏼

The bridge once broken
A #poem (🧵4/6)By then his old mind’s lantern had failed;
the new light I’d shone back went unseen
and broken arches into a chasm trailed
where once a golden bridge had briefly been.👇🏼

The bridge once broken
A #poem (🧵3/6)The care he’d showed I did not feel
as the pillars of our bridge began to crack.
Too late, I turned back to heal
the fallen span that we now lacked.👇🏼

The bridge once broken
A #poem (🧵2/6)His memory murmurs in a darkened nook
of years of yearning and wasted days,
as the distance that filled up the book
of our lives still grows as I turn to grey.👇🏼

The bridge once broken
A #poem (🧵1/6)On the day of all souls in the fall
as leaves lose luster to winter’s bane
my father’s shade returns to call
while I walk along a splintered lane:👇🏼
