    cell conglomerate
    of grouped bosons
    quivering
    in your resonance
    hello!

  3. natural evil

    you needn't imagine evil
    brutality or opportunistic
greed when you can see it
    spread its beautiful vines
    over all diversity before you
    crushing it down, starving
it by stealing the very sun

    try to uproot it
    and discover how
    it will make you
    uproot everything
    else as the price

    In sable night
    that lacks the stars,
    a sealed off cave.
    A man, five scars.

    The tail of night,
    a crack is heard.
    Black stone is rolled,
    a flight of birds.

    Beloved with
    her oils and herbs.
    She sees the stone
    and finds no words.

  6. Limbus

    Tree trunk, stripped bare.
    Crossbar, damp air.
    Black clouds, crows caw,
    perched on nails — gone.

    A sign, four words.
    No voice is heard.
    Cramped cave, stone bed
    where herbs lay — bled.

    Long wait, dark night.
    No candles burn bright.
    Hinted return.
    But silence — burns.

  7. Thanks + Giving: A poetry collection I rounded up last year and some thoughts about Native American Heritage Day biketoworkbarb.blogspot.com/20. Hat tip to Rebecca Solnit for the fabulous graphic, which she posted on BlueSky last year.

  8. All Saints
    A #poetry thread

    i.

I sit in a Gothic cathedral
    of stone tracery,
    late medieval
    with things we can't see.

On this night of All Saints’,
    their many souls gathered ’round,
    flitting in shadows, faint
    and making no sound

    that could be discerned
    by physical ears
    except by those who’ve learned
    to listen with tears.

  9. Pickpocketed pie
    A #poem in three parts

    i.

A Georgian house stands in Wanstead
    along Kingfisher Avenue,
built of brick of cherry red:
something came into my view —

Upon its wall, a stone plaque I see:
It remembers a stolen cherry pie,
which cost a fine of half a guinea
on a warm day in July,

    long ago, one summer’s day,
    in the 18th century,
    a pastry plucked from baker’s tray —
    and consumed, famously.

  10. I never quite know when my daily poetry-reading practice and my work in transportation will overlap. They do more often than you might think, as with this poem by Maya Stein, "The Sting."

  11. I love the philosophy and artistic style of Oxherd Boy, Regina Linke. The latest drawing features a Bertolt Brecht poem.

    "Motto"
    by Bertolt Brecht

    In the dark times
    Will there be singing?
    Yes, there will be singing.
    About the dark times.

  12. Great walls that are built
    to keep people out
    are actually meant
    to lock them in

    But even the greatest,
    most fearsome walls
    must and shall crumble
    before the weight of time

    The crack of concrete
    is the sound of freedom

  13. And through the wisps of winter’s crisp
and frosted burden on these boughs,
I see the sky a blank pale slate
to paint with brightly lit displays
of trees aglow with Yuletide cheer

  14. A Maya Stein poem for #VerseThursday: "trust me, I don't know what I'm doing". It isn't a poem "about" bicycling but there's a line in it that I loved (of course):
"I know that riding a bicycle makes me braver
    than yesterday"
