I just released v1.0 of "MicroCee" a collection of my pixel fonts, taking only the ASCII characters, and converted to C++ byte format to be used with microcontrollers (initially just Arduino).
https://codeberg.org/Dmian/font-microcee
Check it out, and let me know if you have suggestions. Cheers! -
I learned how to make variable fonts, and updated my CPC 464 font to support it. You can chose form Modes 0, 1 or 2, or anything in between. 😁

I updated my CPC464 font to version 2.0!
https://codeberg.org/Dmian/font-cpc464
This versions has a different license (SIL Open Font License, but the previous versions are still included with their original licenses), adds two new widths (Expanded, called "Mode 0" and Condensed or "Mode 2", that are added to the Regular "Mode 1") and a UFO source is included.
Hope you enjoy it! ☺️#pixelfont #bitmapfont #retrofont #retrocomputing #amstradCPC464 #pixelart

A sample of the current mappings/reworked glyphs look. I really wish I had access to some better font generation tools to be able to tweak some kerning pairs.

I have reorganised my Decker font importing tool to be a bit more approachable - rather than starting with a list of obscure font formats, it starts with some links to collections of high-quality fonts, with instructions (and screenshots!) describing how to find the file in the specific format the importer needs.
https://screwtapello.itch.io/decker-font-importer
Shoutouts to @damieng, @patrick_h_lauke, and Rob Hagemans (no known Fediverse account) for creating and maintaining such great collections, and making them available for other creators to use.

8x8 Font Advent Calendar 2025 Day 25
Pixelbricks
I've done a few top-heavy or bottom-heavy fonts, and even some squared off... how about a chaotic squared-off heavy font that just goes where it wants and does it condensed for good measure.
Welcome Pixelbricks!

The Untouchables
Ocean gave us this 1920s prohibition romp based on the star-studded movie of the same name in 1989.
Interesting for us are the two art deco fonts - this one being the 8x8 that uses every available pixel.
I've added a lower-case in the same style and created a "Revised" version that applies the same treatment to the numerics & symbols.

Now that other gorgeous 16x16 font...

Slaine
Martech Games' 1987 release takes the 2000 AD comic character Slaine on a tricky-to-play atmospheric adventure.
The game actually features three fonts - a sharp digital one on the title screen, a small one for dialog and an old-style one used for the main interface which I've converted here.
The same in-game fonts were used on the CPC, C64 and ZX versions.

ZX Space Highway
Justin Penner's Space Highway is an great typeface that encapsulates the feel of old sci-fi covers and posters.
While Justin has made pixel fonts this one was fully scalable and just itching for an 8x8 pixel adaptation in my eyes... and so I made it.
You can find the real Space Highway and other cool free typefaces in Justin's 36 Days of Type at https://justinpenner.ca/projects/36-days-of-fonts/

Street Rod 2
This 1991 DOS and Amiga game sees you attempting to acquire and then modify 1960s street hot rods and race them with plenty of engine tuning and under-the-hoot changes.
The font is a clean, easy-to-read one that is a little unusual in that it is both narrow and features a light touch of serifs for a bit of class.

Got Soul
The pull between consistency and individual glyph flair in a typeface is a difficult balance to get right. I have a tendency to come up with a "style" for a font and then stick to it rigidly throughout the entire character set.
Got Soul embraces bold and then lets each glyph breathe life into its pixels whether that's wider or narrower, curvy or straight, while still feeling cohesive.

Is it possible to fit 16x16 font glyphs into a TV head?
As soon as I saw that these existed I knew it was something I had to try with my extension of GNU Unifont (called UnifontEX), which even has emoji. Unifont and UnifontEX are both 8x16 for anything that can reasonably fit, and 16x16 for anything that can't. I know that people have gone to 15x18 or 15x20, but some glyphs do truly require the full 16x16 cell size, so 16x18 or 16x18 would have to be the case. I'm of course wanting Unicode support (including characters above Plane 0, of which there are many in the font), so that means I'd likely need a Raspberry Pi. I'm also curious which of the formats at http://stgiga.github.io/UnifontEX/ would be best. There are a lot to choose from, including ones that were never offered by upstream Unifont.
I for the past while and especially recently had wanted to wear UnifontEX glyph displays either on my shirt or then a hat, so I could speak my more passionate topics without having to worry about voice level causing me problems.
I also had for the past week felt like I wanted to, if I gave a tech talk or ever appeared in a video, to never show my face and instead hide in a fursuit head, but if I trick one of these out with cat ears, then that would do. The Raspberry Pi could theoretically let me use it as a MIDI player, obviously at safe volumes.
Like, this TV head is something I'd actually want to do, and I'd sorta been thinking about adjacent topics recently. As an Earthbound reference, I would name mine "Lumine", after Lumine Hall from Earthbound. I'd go for a green shell for them and I'd predominantly use green or RGB colors for the text.
Interesting idea: put fursuit fur (or scales if you are a scalie) onto a TV head.
Fursuit head or TV head?
"Why not both?"
Obviously this will all be several years in the future due to my current state of nonemployment. Nonetheless I'm still curious. Also, if any of these ideas are inspirational, I give full permission to use them. Same for the font. I really don't care too much about what people do with my content.
In other news: UnifontEX got used in the game Gem Frenzy (https://theyippies.itch.io/gem-frenzy), and I got credited in the Itch.io game description.
Also my birthday is at the end of the month. #unicode #furry #fursuithead #tvhead #unifontex #rgbled #rgbleds #rgb #font #pixelfonts #pixelfont #unifont #raspberypi #raspberrypipico #luminehall #earthbound #16x16px #indiegame #birthdaysoon #tech #technology #techtalk #techtalks #leddisplay #displays #leddisplays #shirtdisplay #hatdisplay #scalie #scales #furry #indiedevs #catears #midi -
