How to avoid this shit:
- see some meme/screenshot that makes you feel outraged, awed, self-righteously vindicated and like you gotta share it right now?
- go to the account that posted it
- do they post nothing but screenshots of cool/funny/relatable/viral stuff from other people on other social networks?
- it's picspam, block them
- if you're really curious, look for the original post for more context or details. Try doing a web search for the text or username in the post, plus the original site (Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- can't tell from a screenshot what site a post is from?
- sorry, as a typography nerd I've just never had that problem. Sucks to be you

#Picspam account spotted reposting the usual misleading, unsourced viral slop: https://jorts.horse/@ecosurrealism/117005683194708379
- The Twitter account that posted it now calls itself "Memecoin Daily" and just RTs and reposts more picspammers: https://xcancel.com/HowStuffWorks
- The headline is verbatim from this Vice article: https://www.vice.com/en/article/thieves-are-now-targeting-ai-data-center-construction-sites-for-copper-and-expensive-equipment/ which is recycling Business Insider: https://www.businessinsider.com/cargo-thieves-stole-million-of-data-center-supplies-sheriff-says-2026-6
- The story is based on this Cook County, IL sheriff's post from a month ago (with totally different photos): https://xcancel.com/CookSheriffIL/status/2070266581184135598
- And the photo is of a TikTok-owned data centre in Norway, from a 2023 story: https://www.reuters.com/technology/tiktok-takes-first-steps-turning-norwegian-data-centre-2023-11-30/ It has nothing to do with AI, it's about storing data in Europe because of other governments' concerns about China.
you are not immune to propaganda

Suspended @[email protected] from flipping.rocks after seeing one too many stolen photos. Their content is virtually all uncredited scraped/stolen/reposted from other social media platforms, and I seriously doubt they are an actual human being. I recommend other admins also suspend them.
Why-is-nature-picspam-bad FAQ:
- look, i'm not the copyright police or anything, but artists and photographers deserve to be credited for their work
- taking images out of context/scraping text often leads to propagating misinformation or unwittingly showcasing animal cruelty or irresponsible treatment of wildlife
- inauthentic viral-reposter accounts can easily be turned into spam/monetization/misinformation vectorsdon't let the robots win. support real nature photographers, block fake-ass picspammers.
