  1. How to avoid this shit:

    • see some meme/screenshot that makes you feel outraged, awed, self-righteously vindicated and like you gotta share it right now?
    • go to the account that posted it
    • do they post nothing but screenshots of cool/funny/relatable/viral stuff from other people on other social networks?
    • it's picspam, block them
    • if you're really curious, look for the original post for more context or details. Try doing a web search for the text or username in the post, plus the original site (Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
    • can't tell from a screenshot what site a post is from?
    • sorry, as a typography nerd I've just never had that problem. Sucks to be you

  2. #Picspam account spotted reposting the usual misleading, unsourced viral slop: https://jorts.horse/@ecosurrealism/117005683194708379

you are not immune to propaganda

  3. @dbattistella Text copied from this recent Iran Embassy post on Twitter: xcancel.com/IraninAustralia/st

The video is from Hossein Abdi on Instagram (you can see the watermark almost cropped out in the Twitter video): instagram.com/p/DHynEV0tB4L/

  4. Suspended @[email protected] from flipping.rocks after seeing one too many stolen photos. Their content is virtually all uncredited scraped/stolen/reposted from other social media platforms, and I seriously doubt they are an actual human being. I recommend other admins also suspend them.

    Why-is-nature-picspam-bad FAQ:

    - look, i'm not the copyright police or anything, but artists and photographers deserve to be credited for their work
    - taking images out of context/scraping text often leads to propagating misinformation or unwittingly showcasing animal cruelty or irresponsible treatment of wildlife
    - inauthentic viral-reposter accounts can easily be turned into spam/monetization/misinformation vectors

don't let the robots win. support real nature photographers, block fake-ass picspammers.
