  1. Did #PaulMcCartney or #GeargeMartin ever talk about their reaction to finding out the #BeachBoys #PetSounds, that instead it was #TheWreckingCrew, the best of the best LA session musicians, who mostly had a jazz or country background, coming up with their own parts?

Sure Brian Wilson, arranged them and sang on the them, but the contribution of the Wrecking Crew seems unknown or was overlooked by Martin and McCartney.

  2. The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds arrived in Argentina as Sonidos Favoritos.
In my latest El Espacio Haro piece, I write about how music was edited and translated in my country: Capitol/Odeón's decisions, the hands that pressed the vinyl, and the life each record gathered in the homes of those who played it.
Playing a vinyl means listening to a historical object.

  5. On this day in 1966 “Pet Sounds” by The Beach Boys, produced by Brian Wilson, was released.

Wilson: “I didn’t want to copy the Beatles, but I wanted to be as good as them, and have the Phil Spector Wall of Sound, too”

My parents are huge Beach Boys fans, so of course I was raised on this music. But still every time I listen to #PetSounds I am just so astounded and transported by this album. The songs, the ordering of their presentation, it’s just divine! 🥰

A perfect Saturday afternoon lunchtime spin.

I have nothing to say about Pet Sounds that hasn’t already been said a billion times by everybody over the years.

It’s a living, breathing, beautiful piece of art.
Teenage symphonies to God indeed, Brian.

  14. Just listened through the whole of #PetSounds in recognition of the passing this week of #BrianWilson

Remains one of my favourite records.

Not quite sure what to follow it with, frankly.

    Maybe Sergeant Pepper’s?

  15. R.I.P. #BrianWilson. The man who composed, arranged, and played the songs that inspired the #Beatles to write their most successful albums.

I was not even born when #PetSounds hit the charts, but I am deeply impressed.

  16. Brian Wilson has left us, but his music lives on. I discovered the Beach Boys through his legendary “rivalry” with McCartney—and our shared love of bass. Here’s my tribute to one of pop’s greatest innovators. 🎶 #BrianWilson #BeachBoys #PetSounds #GoodVibrations

  17. Coming directly on the heels of #petsounds and #smile, #wildhoney is a very strong album, some would say the #beachboys best, but it’s still a bit under the radar. One of my faves and I still need a #mono copy. I saw #brianwilson do Pet Sounds here in #pdx a few years back and he was amazing. RIP. #nowplaying #vinyl #recordcollection @vinylrecords

#BrianWilson just died at age 82. RIP, Brian. 🙏

#PetSounds is considered their greatest musical achievement but my favorite #BeachBoys album was #SurferGirl, even though I didn't & still don't know how to surf, because it was one of their 1st major albums & captured the spirit of their music which represented 1 of 3 major musical themes in R&R which were competing for dominance at the time: The CA sound, 2) Motown & 3) English rock.

I've got both of these & others of their recordings on both vinyl & CD.

  19. Brian had assembled a band that somehow replicated the gorgeous complexity and, at times, exquisite simplicity of the recordings. There are no words to explain how beautiful it was.

He lived a life of intense highs and deep lows. But the music he created made the world a better place. He was one of our great artists and should be remembered as such.

So farewell, and rest easy Brian. There'll never be another like you.

  20. I saw Brian Wilson play live several times in the early noughties in London. First for the SMILE concerts and then Pet Sounds. I remember leaving the auditorium with a friend one evening and him turning to me and saying "that was like watching someone levitate right in front of us".

I understood exactly what he meant. There was something almost supernatural about the music we heard that night.
