So, the rain we've gotten in Southern #Maine seems pretty clear (not full of ashes), but it does not smell good. No #petrichlor . Maybe an undertone of stale smoke? Not pleasant... Also #AlkalineRain is a thing like #AcidRain. While it would seem to neutralize Acid Rain, it ends up having the opposite effect.
Can Smoke Particles Neutralize or Enhance Acid Rain?
Smoke can neutralize acid if it contains alkaline ash, but often provides surfaces that accelerate acid formation.

In other news, I gave my goosedown pillows a nice airing out in the cold yesterday, and I slept so well last night! The pillows had the scent of "winter" -- a fresh smell that is hard to describe... One that makes me think of #petrichlor, the scent of the rain on dry soil. Another smell is freshly washed, sun-dried bedsheets in the summer. No chemicals could capture the subtlety of those scents.
