#Hoshigaki came out better than I could have imagined, dried as expected and after a couple of weeks in the fridge have a wonderful sugar bloom and taste great.

This year's batch of Pearsimon Jam. Two of the jars popped before I even pulled them out of the water; all five were popped in a few minutes. 🙂 The flavor isn't as good this year; it more resembles candy than jam. Perhaps because I used last year's frozen persimmons. But we got far fewer persimmons this year than last, so I was glad for the frozen ones.

I got two(ate one) ginormous persimmons today. Some kind of exotic. It's not native. It was in the road RoW in front of someone's house. Weird place for a fruit tree. Dunno if they planted it or animals did.
The seeds are tiny. I had wanted to try planting them, but I'm not sure I'll bother. I'd rather have native trees. These don't taste quite as good as native imo, but they make up for it by being huge and 100% edible. No seeds to get in the way. You can just eat it.

From the fall garden today, #NikitasGift #Persimmon. This is from Yalta, #Ukraine, a cross between the American persimmon, #DiospyrosVirginiana and #Kaki, an Asian persimmon. Fruit is larger than the American variety, still has the astringency of the Hachiya till fully ripe, and the fruit hangs until picked. Fall color is outstanding.

Found more persimmon today! These are a few miles from my house, so I may go back later for more. There were tons that still weren't quite ripe. Easy access too. A nice gravel pulloff to a farm field.
These are the trees I'm familiar with. Small scrubby things. Like a pioneer tree. Dunno what was up with the giants I saw last time.

On the way to a job I saw persimmons laying on the side of the. On the way back to the office, I stopped to find some fruit. All I got was gnarly road fruit cause the ones on the tree were waaay out of reach. I've never seen persimmon trees so tall. They're also a couple weeks early. I just extracted the seeds, and hopefully I can grow a couple trees.
This was the same road I found the pawpaw on. Two of my favorite wild fruits, and not the easiest to come by.

Voor het eerst nu veel bloemen - en hopelijk later dus ook fruit - aan de kaki/dadelpruim. Ze zitten verscholen onder het blad.
Het is de vruchtselectie ‘Nikitskaya Bordovaya’ van een kruising Kaki (Diospyrus kaki) met Amerikaanse persimoen (Diospyros virginiana).

I was cleaning out the pantry and noticed I still had dried persimmons. I had used them to make persimmon tea which is effective for GERD/heartburn. It's been quite a while since I last had the tea; I decided to to use them instead of tossing them.Today I have sores in my mouth. Previously I had the same type of sores from eating walnuts. Walnuts can trigger pemphigus vulgaris*. I looked up whether walnut and persimmon allergen are cross-reactive - yes, they are.
We are moving away and leaving behind the persimmon tree I planted in the back yard, which ought to start fruiting this year. At least I won't be reminded of my disappointment in not being able to eat persimmons on a daily basis.
