The #pasmo assembler has this really neat feature where it'll accept #z80 opcodes and then do its best to emit equivalent #Intel8086 instructions. Effectively, this is the "assembly-level" forward compatibility that Intel advertised for migrating code from 8080 to 8086.
It certainly isn't perfect - a few instructions are unimplemented and have to be manually fixed, and I'm not sure I've caught all the subtle bugs where flags behave differently ... but, here's Palo Alto TinyBasic running on #MartyPC under DOS, in only a few hours work!

Pushed a small change to make tinybasic's assembly format compatible with #pasmo. (This did not require sacrificing compatibility with nongnu z80asm.)

Anyone ever successfully added a payment method to GPay in Japan on an Android phone? Please, enthrall me with your acumen.

It only took a couple of months after #PASMO announced they'd be supporting #ApplePay / #AppleWallet for them to actually launch it, so if #ICOCA were to follow roughly the same timeline then in theory it could launch as soon as next week (their announcement was on 17 April).
But that assumes they've already been working on it long before the announcement. They seemed a bit on the back foot when originally quizzed about it. If not, maybe another few months? Time will tell!

Train operators in eastern Japan will suspend sales of some Suica and Pasmo rechargeable transportation cards starting on June 8 due to a shortage of the chips needed to make them. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/06/02/national/suica-pasmo-sales-suspension/?utm_content=buffere16b2&utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon&utm_campaign=bffmstdn #news #japan #rail #tourism #suica #pasmo #jreast

Todays adventures in OS writing have got me to the stage where I need to start thinking about device drivers. 🤮 Also, my assembler - I’m using #pasmo - is winning-er than the C pre-processor, for it does variadic macros much better. 😍

If you tap your IC (Suica/Pasmo) card ENTERING into a train station, then tap out to EXIT at the same station, you are still charged 140¥...
My reason for doing this? Vegan ramen fron T's TanTan, which for this location, was only inside the station I was at... Live and learn I guess :) or consider it 140¥ for journalistic purposes :)
