The recent post from Signal about the cost of operating is interesting and concerning. It feels like many of their larger expenses could be reduced by moving to a peer to peer architecture.
Keet and Briar are two good examples of this. They both operate without the need for any cenralised services. That feels more secure, more resilient and more sustainable.
It also doesn't feel great to know that a large percentage of donations to Signal would most likely just funnel through to Amazon, Google or SMS providers.
