  1. «There is no such thing as full decentralization»

There's always an axis that centralizes: identity, connectivity, discovery, or cost. The useful question isn't "is it decentralized?", it's which of these it sacrificed, and what that costs you the day that point breaks.

It will surprise more than a few of you to hear that the first social network dates back to 1971; no accounts, no algorithm, no central server, just a plain text file you control.

    - The official website displays real-time statistics from the official Relay: https://org-social.org/
    - The iOS app has incorporated many improvements, such as bug fixes and optimized asynchronous Timeline construction.
    - Planet Emacslife, the most popular Emacs article aggregator, offers its own Org Social feed. Be sure to follow it!

And finally, I want to make a point. Currently, there isn't enough support to cover server costs, let alone Apple's subscription fee or development work. If you like Org Social and believe it provides value, please consider making a donation: https://liberapay.com/org-social

  26. I would like to propose a simple alternative for announcing your Emacs Carnival article: publish one post in your social.org with the tag emacs-carnival, and you are in. Submissions can then be read from any Org Social client, a JSON API or RSS. No endpoints, no extra software.

  31. Weekly notes 22 2026

    Weekly notes 22 2026

Writing the weekly notes after a long time.

I am sad for the recent changes in Tamilnadu politics. Wanted to get back into life and keep things moving. Started to read books and hear music.

    HiFi Walker H2 Audio Player

This tiny musical device is showing a new world of music. All the mp3 songs I have heard so far, are so fresh when hearing in this device.

FLAC and WAV are the complete song formats, where the MP3 seems to give only 60% of the audio content.

If you have time, interest to enjoy good music, invest some money, get a music player with DAC processor and a good headphones. Then, you can live in a wonderland.

Wrote more about this here. https://goinggnu.wordpress.com/2026/05/30/immersing-into-music-with-offline-flac-music-player/

    Resuming French learning

My french course was stopped due to recent India trip. Reading the A1 course content again to continue. Hope will continue the course soon.

    Learning Go language and RAG

My friend Syed Jafer is conducting many online courses. Joined the courses for RAG and Go lang. Go is interesting language. With the simplicity and power, it can do all the backend stuff. Rewriting the python projects in Go is a good exercise to learn Go quickly.

Thanks to my Chennai Linux Users Group friend Mohan, to push me to learn go. He has done many projects with Go already. I enjoy the go projects like gotosocial, hugo etc. I like the compilation into single binary and pretty formatting.

Will write on my learnings soon.

    org-social

On searching on alternate social media platforms, found org-social is interesting. It is a social media, based on the emacs text editor’s super feature org-mode.

With org-social, we can use emacs editor to be part of a decentralized social media org-social.

Here is my public org-social file. https://host.org-social.org/shrini/social.org

Wallabag – Save and classify articles. Read them later. Freely.

As part of my reducing doom scrolling social media and reading random articles, wanted a system to save the articles to read later. Seems Pocket service by Mozilla is shutdown. Found a open source application to do self hosting. It is called ‘Wallabag”. Installed this in my desktop and saving all the good articles I come across online.

Now, it is easy and peaceful to read the articles I saved already.

It is easy setup. It has good extensions for firefox and chrome. Explore more here – https://wallabag.org/

    Hospital visits

Last few weeks were busy with multiple hospital visits. The annual checkups are showing mostly good, healthy conditions. Still I have B12 and D vitamins deficiency. Got loads of tablets for these. Restarted my exercise at Gym. Need to focus on having good food and more fruits.

    Learning Car driving

Started to learn car driving. The instructor Pushparaj is so kind and patience. I am still trying to follow his guidance. Still I am in learning phase.

    Summer is here

Finally, summer came to Canada. Life is super busy with lot of outdoor activities. Viyan is practicing basketball daily. Iyal and Paari are with volleyball and cricket. I started to play Pickle ball with Viyan and friends. We visited central island and few local parks in the weekends.
