  1. My new colourwork socks are done! I tried two different techniques for short-rowing on the heels, and both of them worked well. All sorts of details on the blog, if you're interested: knittingpirate.com/2025/12/10/

  2. I don't enjoy knitting fine-gauge colourwork on DPNs, so I knit the cuffs/legs of these socks on the machine, then switched to hand-knitting for the plain stockinette feet. And of course, I blogged about it :)

  3. Despite multiple issues with the way the pattern was written, I'm really happy with these finished socks! They're thick, squishy, and warm. (And yes, the legs are the same length when one sock isn't turned sideways.)

  4. The Hardhat Beanie is my first finished project of 2025! The leftovers are going towards contrasting cuffs/heels/toes on the next pair of socks.

  5. Sometimes I think I know better than what the pattern instructions tell me to do - and sometimes that doesn't come back to bite me later. Sock progress, and pattern confusion: knittingpirate.com/2024/12/09/

  6. The three remaining balls of Kroy from the purple sweater are becoming (I hope) a pair of Cable Detail Socks. Why, you may ask, have I included that hopeful parenthetical? Because this is a metric ton of cables and the socks are knit over 96 stitches, and I have no idea if it will fit.

You’re going to say “you have to swatch,” right? Well, the sock leg IS my gauge swatch. So, fingers crossed along with all the cables.

I've already made some changes to the pattern, because I'm like that. Details on the blog: knittingpirate.com/2024/12/06/

  7. Okay, for real this time - I am going to finish knitting this sock. All that’s left are two pattern repeats and the toe. Keep an eye out for the Twisted Trilogy set of sock patterns, coming soon - well, as soon as I format them for publication, anyway.

(hmmm, why doesn't the auto-sharer thingie share the image from the post, too? Editing to add it... and some hashtags.)

  9. (Please remove the gup.pe group from replies. Thanks!)

I realized that I had nothing to knit in the car to and from Connecticut for Christmas. So here goes - another pair of plain stockinette socks, and I'm already up to the point where I'll start the heel flap. Car rides are the *best* for getting lots of knitting done...

  10. Yesterday it was in the high 70s (25°C, ish) outside; today it's barely going to reach 60°F (15°C). I have a new pair of handknit socks to keep my toes unfroze :)
