All the more reason to shut these sites down, at least on a nation-by-nation basis. Here in Aotearoa, March 15, 2019 would have been the perfect reason, to honour the 51 martyrs. We could have been free of #Facebook—but Ardern used it herself and I guess that wasnʼt going to happen. But it would have been a precedent to be rid of #OnlyKlans now, especially with its real dangers, as Carole Cadwalladr points out.

Suite aux pleurnicheries d'Elon #Musk menaçant de couper l'accès de l'Union Européenne à #OnlyKlans (ex-#Twitter) si on l'obligeait à le modérer, Franklin Dehousse, professeur à l'Université de #Liege, se fend d'une chronique dans @vif_le pour expliquer que « l'#Europe a besoin d'un réseau social public », alors que ce dont elle a besoin, c'est d'une désintoxication aux plateformes privées centralisées.

Si « l'Europe » a vraiment besoin d'un point de repère centralisé, je lui conseillerais plutôt d'investir dans un outil en libre accès et interopérable. Ça tombe bien, il s'appelle #Fediverse, existe depuis 2015 et j'écris avec en ce moment même.

Qu'on ne me dise pas qu'il n'y a aucun budget pour monter et gérer une instance officielle propre à l'UE et sur laquelle migreraient tous les services de communications publics des 27 pays de l'Union ?

Le débat est ouvert.

RIP mon compte principal sur #OnlyKlans, j'y aurai passé trois ans et demi riches en émotions, mais ces dernières sont devenues trop négatives et il était temps d'arrêter de me laisser bouffer le cerveau.

Looked at the other site for a minute. Top post under 'Following': Russian propaganda. Top post under 'For you': a friend responding to an attack on him. The columns might be the wrong way round, but itʼs a reminder why #OnlyKlans is toxic. The algorithms tried to draw me in and they didnʼt work.

Made the mistake of glancing at #OnlyKlans just now. What a cesspool. Apparently Cameron Slater had posted something homophobic and untrue. There was a 'breaking news'-type banner with something about Biden, probably untrue if it's trending. This is New Twitter, where lies are the order of the day.

Thought I’d look at #OnlyKlans through #Tweetdeck. I’ve been logged out, and any attempt to log back in takes me back to the log-in screen.
