I totally lost track with #OnionOS on my #MiyooMini and just found out that my version 4.3.0 is outdated. Installing the currently latest beta version 4.4.0-beta2 worked flawlessly. 😊 Now I can play #TetrisDX again AND get my achievements registered with #RetroAchievements because of the latest #RetroArch version! Yayyy! 🤩 #RetroGaming #HandheldGaming #HandheldConsole #GameBoy #GameBoyAdvance #GameBoyColor #Tetris

After two months of owning the #MiyooMiniPlus I have the authority to say (???????) that it’s a great console, but its true potential lies in uninstalling the base operating system and using #OnionOS.

Finally got my Miyoo Mini+ and installing OnionOS was the best decision. Now to add even more games on here and keep playing.

Is there a GUI app on #Linux I could use to clone a disk (i.e. SD card) to image? I know there's dd but that isn't GUI. I normally use and prefer #KDE's Partition Manager which I could use to just copy over each partition from a disk to another, but copying the disk as an image would be far more portable - I know on #Windows people use Win32 Disk Imager, while on #macOS I think you could just use the built-in Disk Utility.

Update: WAIT - I think you could actually do this on KDE Partition Manager! Just mount the disk, right click the partition, click Backup, set an output path, and apply.

There's also an option to Restore a partition on the app, which I assume is when you then supply the image you had just backed up. I'm testing this right now, but I'm hopeful!

Update 2: It worked perfectly. I backed up the partition as an image (not sure if you could do so for multiple partitions in one image), and restored it on another empty SD card.

I tested it on an #OnionOS install for my #MiyooMini. After the restoration was done, put in my new (target) SD card, and the device literally booted right into the game I had paused right at the time when I removed the (source) SD card. KDE Partition Manager ftw.

I picked up a Miyoo Mini Plus and put #OnionOS on it. I now have the #Pico8 console I’ve been dreaming of for years. Train rides to the office are about to be better than ever.

Mein #Retroid Pocket 2S ist gestern angekommen (startet wie der Cybertoot von gestern).

Ein tolles Teil, wenn ich auch gemerkt habe, dass ich die Nicht-Android-Kisten irgendwie cooler zum Einrichten finde. Habe gestern bestimmt 5 Stunden versucht das Teil einzurichten und ich bin noch lange nicht fertig. Macht Spaß, keine Frage. Aber spielen kann man derweil nicht wirklich.

Beim #Miyoo Mini Plus habe ich #OnionOS auf die SD-Karte gepackt, der Rest lief dann einfach. Da gab es im Grunde keinen Aufwand. Kann ich daher gerade für zockende Leute mehr empfehlen.

Das RP2S ist klasse verarbeitet, fühlt sich super gut an und macht wirklich Spaß. Es hat im Grunde alles, was man braucht. Mit Android zum Teil auch zu viel. Aber was ist schon zu viel in solchen Fällen?

Mein Wochenende war sehr produktiv! 🤓

Uuuuund die Sammlung wächst weiter … Hier im Bild noch die Original Firmware zu sehen, ich habe aber mittlerweile #Knulli drauf gemacht (in Ermangelung von #OnionOS für diese Plattform). Auf meinem – systemgleichen – RG35xx+ habe ich auch Knulli drauf. Gefällt ganz gut, ist aktuell mein Favorit. Vor allem auch wegen #EmulationStation als Frontend. 👍 #anbernic #rg35xxh #retrogaming

But it doesn't have #OnionOS and it doesn't seem to have the best support yet alfwkdjdqdhf

Having some time off from work has meant that I have a little extra time for video games. A couple of my favorites have been #BlasterMaster and #TripWorld.

I've mostly been playing on my #Batocera gaming rig and #MiyooMiniPlus.

Anyway, just in case I do need to reinstall #OnionOS, does anyone know how I can do so without wiping the whole SD and starting over? That's not really an option. Can I just poke it somehow to tell it to reinstall? A search was uninformative.

So I got #onionos installed on my new #miyoominiplus , and threw some games on it. As far as I can see the #C64 games work, although I haven't tried multi disk games or games that require true 1541 emulation.
The gameboy roms all worked (no surprise there) and #scummvm works as long as I use the original files, I need to see how I can get #gog version to run.
#Dosbox has been a fail so far, looking into ways to use the GOG setup ...
I only have the #MagneticScrolls games for the #amiga, so that wasn't 1st prio (and I need to dig out the roms from cloanto).

Just installed #OnionOS on my #Miyoo Mini Plus, it looks awesome!

So i'm checking the port section of #OnionOS as they added a #doom mod pack to the port section but i'm a tad...baffled with the selection.

Here's a long thread:

- For starters, it has a "fixed" version of Goldeneye Doom made for the korean #GP32, one of the first emu. dedicated #handhelds with linux. Mind you, the GP32 was released in 2001 and correct me if im wrong but Goldeneye Doom was first released in 2003.

I'm not sure if it is because of the lack of updates in the #Retroarch port of PrBoom+, but man they have been toying with this old ass outdated mod for 20 years. I thought this was because this specific mod was popular in asia or whatever but the main Onion OS dev is from Denmark so i don't know.

The other mods selected aren't much better either.

- First is Star Wars Doom '94, aka stardoom.zip. Why not include the '97 version instead?

- The next two are A Fistful of Doom and Ultimate Simpsons Doom which are probably the best of the selected mods i suppose, but mostly because of the effort the creators put on these the year both were released, '97 & '98 respectively. But still odd choices for the mod pack.

- This one killed me. Final Fantasy Doom, the one where you play as a Moogle and every sprite is a MSPaint doodle. I never liked this mod at all. It feels like a big shitpost with a FF coat of paint.

- Another mod is Half Life in Doom II which isn't even complete. Its just the first two HL levels before it crashes. This is another wad that has been around the internet forever, usually found in packs made for the #Dreamcast.

- This might be the most specific choice for the pack. This mod was released in 2005 i think, and replaces most sprites with monsters made of real legos. I barely played it but its probably one i could recommend.

- The other is countertrike.wad
Not sure how old is this one, there are several counter strike-themed mods for Doom but i have seen one shared around the PSP communities a lot.

- The last one is the Blood TC mod from 2006. Not even ZBlood, its the version that came before it. it plays okay i guess but its still very outdated.

I really dont know what even think about it. It isn't that the mods are bad, its that the dev only lets you play only this very specific list and nothing else. I really wish Onion OS could let you pick the mods you actually want to play instead of...well, these.

updated the custom onion os and the Boktai sensor stopped working, the game seems to register it in the testing screen, but not anywhere near the level I've set it to, or enough to charge the solar gun in-game

has anyone else experienced this? know a fix? :neofox_think_anime:​

@krystman @rasterweb @a_cup_of_sugar #OnionOS on the #MiyooMini and #MiyooMiniPlus supports both #PICO8 and #TIC80. You can enable them using the Package Manager app.

Similar to #GarlicOS on the #RG35XX, OnionOS uses the fake08 retroarch core for PICO-8. Whilst it is unofficial, and will not have perfect compatibility, it's my preferred way to run PICO-8 because it's Open Source.

Mein Anbernic RG35XX kam gestern an. Direkt erstmal #OnionOS drauf geladen und mit “Futter” versorgt. Ich bin doch etwas beeindruckt. Bisher #GameBoy, #SNES und PS1 getestet und hatte da ein stabiles Ergebnis ohne Einbrüche. Wird wohl nicht das letzte Gerät von #Anbernic im Haushalt bleiben. Die Frau griff auch direkt zu den Tasten, als ich ihr Super Mario Land und Super Mario World zeigte. 😁 Werde ihr wohl ein ähnliches Gerät besorgen müssen. 😅 #RetroGaming

I want to be able to do more than just favorite games in #garlicOS / #onionOS; I want to add them to lists like "games I want to finish some day" and "two player coop" or whatever.

I downloaded a very carefully curated collection of ROMs for #miyooMini #onionOS and it's got screenshots, and cover art and logos in the thumbnails!!

Trouble is that the #GarlicOS theme I'm using displays text over the thumbnails and it looks kinda like trash.

I wonder if it's possible to have #retroArch render the thumbnails over the #ROMs list when available.

I'm getting anxiety about the #anbernicRg35xx I ordered as I see more and more about the #miyooMiniPlus.

I was pretty disappointed with the OS on my #anbernic #rg350 and seeing #OnionOS made me want to try out another #retrogaming #handheld. Seeing #BlackSeraph's #RetroArch release #GarlicOS for the #rg35xx convinced me to pull the trigger and get one.

But I keep hearing about the #miyooMini's #OnionOS and how it's continuing to be developed and I'm getting FOMO.

Everytime I come back to #retrogames handhelds from China I'm amazed at the variety and value of hardware. For $60 you can get 1000s of #videogames in a device with #nintendo levels of build quality.

I had an #anbernic but I disliked the OS. Now there are alternative firmwares like #OnionOS and #GarlicOS. I'm thinking I might try to get an #RG3XX or #miyoomini

A few days in, my review of the #MiyooMini (pocket linux gameboy)
Pro: The emulation is excellent and "just works". It runs everything from MAME to ZX Spectrum, Nintendo, PICO-8, PS1 and Amiga stuff. The #OnionOS UI is fast and makes sense

Con: It's tiny, but not rugged. I've already dropped it on a hard floor and damaged the LCD. The micro-sd slot is spring loaded and great for losing cards
