🚨🆕 Nick Woltemade has not been given permission by Newcastle to leave the club. Ross Wilson has no plans to sell or loan out Woltemade. He’s a big fan of the striker. #NUFC
… with his agent Danny Bachmann has confirmed to me that the reports originated from fake accounts.
Woltemade’s plan is to stay. He has set himself high targets for the season and is fully fit. @[email protected] 🇩🇪

75+5 is incredible money for someone who's 29 before Xmas.
It all depends on how we spend it of course.
He deserves the move and I don't begrudge him it all. He went about it as well as he could've I think.
Every year we look back on players we should've sold the year before.
If we kept him there's no doubt we'd all be talking about turning down this money when he's 30 next year.
Really sad to see him go, he'll always be a legend. This is also on PIF for not keeping promises made.

“I’ll love it if we beat them. Love it!”
Still, for me, one of the Premier League’s most iconic moments.
The back story to it & Keegan’s subsequent reaction & embracing of it all also spoke volumes for the man and his values.
He will be sorely missed.
Ps it’s a popular myth the rant actually cost Newcastle the title, it had been slipping away for weeks before then

King Kev was before my time really so I can't profess to having any direct love or emotion for him but I am aware of just how incredibly important he was in his stints as player and manager (the one before Mike Ashley did him dirty).
He deserves a statue and a stand named after him. It's sad that didn't happen while he was still with us.
RIP King

R.I.P. Kevin Keegan (1951-2026)
More very sad news. Kevin Keegan (left) has passed away from cancer at the age of 75. He made his reputation at Liverpool, and in Germany, but I remember him best as a player and captain of the Newcastle United team that got promotion to the (then) First Division in 1984. At that time I was a student at Cambridge and member of the local branch of the NUFC Supporters’ Club so I got to see him play quite a few times. Keegan retired from playing at the end of that season and bid an emotional farewell from St James’s Park after the final game against Brighton.
Kevin Keegan was an attacking midfielder who usually operated in the inside-right position. Very good on the ball and an excellent finisher, he was also surprisingly effective in the air. I say “surprisingly” because he wasn’t a very big man, around 5 foot 8 inches tall. After moving to Hamburg he was named European Footballer of Year for two successive years (1978 and 1979). It was quite unusual in those days for English footballers to play on the continent, but Keegan seems to have thrived there.
Later on, in 1992, he rejoined Newcastle United as manager and brought them to promotion to the Premier League. They team led for most of the 1995/6 season but ended up in second place. He had assembled a wonderful group of attacking players but the team’s defensive frailties cost them the title. Keegan had a rather fragile character, and the strain obviously got to him and thence to the players. He was never a great tactical manager – my Dad said Keegan was more of a mascot than a manager – but that team played some great football. Was that really 30 years ago?
On a more personal note, in the 1990s, my Mum was working at a school for physically handicapped children in Newcastle. One day they were visited by Kevin Keegan and some of the Newcastle players. Such PR trips were not uncommon and the staff didn’t think much of them. She didn’t care for footballers in general, but told me that Keegan was very different from most of the other visitors they got. He ignored the photographers aand the formal itinerary and just went to sit on the floor chatting with the kids around him. I never met him in person but it seems he was a genuinely nice man in private life.
P.S. Though he was born in Doncaster, “Keegan” is an Irish name. His paternal grandfather was born in Ireland and moved to Newcastle to work as a miner. He could therefore have played for Ireland rather than England.

🤍 🕊️ A statement on behalf of Kevin Keegan’s family:
“It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75.
“Kevin had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.
“A double Ballon D’or winner, Kevin was a much loved husband, father and grandfather.
“The family would like to thank Kevin’s incredible medical team for all their support.
“This is a hugely difficult time and they are requesting space and privacy.”

RE: https://twitter.com/TheAthleticFC/status/2079084136350843250
The difference in which clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool get talked about compared to #NUFC is getting really obvious now. No gazumping or hijacking here!! Arsenal never lost out on the player, they chose not to get him.
The fee for Rogers is insane and I don't blame Arsenal for backing out, but imagine the coverage if NUFC did this.
We need to start understanding that these transfer gurus have deals with clubs to cover them favourably and I actually respect NUFC for not playing that game.

As a Newcastle fan I've got plenty of experience watching a team go way too defensive way too early. It's such a tough ask to sit back and defend with no out ball for that long. They almost pulled it off.
