#falsespring #1 (or maybe #2 I can't recall). Its been above freezing for most of the weekend. The lake has definitely changed.

A weekend on Medway Lakes with the Scouts. On a portage we came across what looks like a turtle nest that's been raided *very* recently by a bear. 🐢😲 and then further along a big🐻💩.

Also in the forest at Cape Split it was laundry day. There were plenty of Dutchman's Breeches, with the upside down pantaloons drying in the wind.
These Dicentra flowers are about as unlikely a flower as anything I have seen apart from Ophrys orchid spp.

Amid the Spring Beauties at Cape Split at the weekend, I also saw plenty of luscious Red Trilliums.
The plant is also known as Stinking Benjamin - it is supposed to smell of rotting flesh to attract the flies that pollinate it, but I didn't detect such a perfume.
There are 3 spp of Trilliums in Nova Scotia, and this is the commonest.

Just back from a long overdue date with nature this long weekend.
We hiked the Cape Split trail. The spring flowers in the woods were a delight.
Spring Beauty was in full bloom, carpeting the forest floor in places. Our species is the Carolinian Spring-Beauty (there are in fact 33 Claytonia spp, 16 of them in Canada).
