So i sit down in my recliner tonight, with no plans. I decide, I'm going to watch a little TV. So i turn on the screen, and am immediately greeted with Hulu.
I didn't ask my Roku to open Hulu, i had no intention of watching Hulu, but that's what opened. Ok, whatever, i hit the home button. The home screen flashes on, i hear a sound like i''d pressed a button on the remote, and up comes Hulu! Hm. I didn't open hulu.. why is hulu open.
I turn off the TV assuming something went wrong with the boot-up of my Roku stick.
The TV immediately turns back on, and opens Hulu.
I know that the VR Lighthouses that I have in the corners of my office sometimes interfere with my remote, but that hadn't been a problem since upgrading them. But what the heck, i unplug them. No better.
All the while, i keep hearing that UI noise, like I'm pressing a button. So i figure, my remote must be squirley. Roku has those service shortcut buttons maybe the Hulu button is stuck? I look at the remote... There is no Hulu button.
Hm. So i walk over to the roku, and cover its face with my hand. The sound stops. I move my hand out just enough that I can point the remote in my hand at it, and hit the home button. It goes to the home screen. Hm. I move my hand.
Hulu.
What?!
I call my wife over to ensure that I have not in fact lost my mind. She confirms that in fact Hulu is on the screen, and keeps coming back.
What the actual hell?!
She walks off, un-interested in helping me resolve my ghost hulu problem.
I turn off the lights, i shut down my PC, i do everything that could conceivably be sending any sort of signal to my damn roku. None of these things make sense, but I'm past what made sense already. Then I get an idea.
I hold a notebook up in front of the Roku. The indicator light on it was sort of flickering, while the notebook is in front of it, it goes solid. move the notebook, i hear the noise again, and the light starts to flicker. SOMETHING is telling my roku to open hulu!
So i move the notebook about 2 feet away from the roku, and move it around until it makes the light stop flickering. AH HA! I HAVE A TRAJECTORY!
For the next several minutes I move around my office holding this notebook in the air like I'm trying to pick up signals from space, narrowing down the line of sight to my little hulu fiend.
I end up in front of this plastic storage set i have next to my desk. If i hold the notebook in front of the top drawer, no hulu, move it. HULU.
I call my wife over. She's not even impressed.
I open the drawer.
THERES A GODDAMN OLD ROKU REMOTE IN THERE WITH A USB SDCARD READER LAYING ON THE FLIPPING HULU BUTTON!
My wife laughs at me, and walks away.
I pulled the batteries out of the old remote.
