  5. #NixNet's #Pleroma instance has updated to a fork called #Akkoma from @FloatingGhost; we now have

    - Local-only posts
    - Timeline specifically for DMs

    and most importantly

    - Custom emoji reactions that properly federate with #Misskey :bolbcheer:

There's probably some other nice things as well but I haven't poked around enough to find out :blobcat3c:

  7. Hello everyone! Been lurking here for a few days, and now that I've sort of gotten familiar with the platform and it looks like a good place to stay (I've been rather hesitant to try out yet more platforms these days, but the added functionality over Mastodon and Pleroma feels worth it) - here's my belated #introduction note.

    I'm a
#Linux developer - see my profile for my other Fediverse presence - my $dayjob is for a proprietary social media company, and apart from the lack of editing, the only thing I really miss from that platform in #Fediverse platforms is having custom reactions rather than just star/like - and guess I found it here!

    I'm into
#Gemini as well - gemini://tilde.team/~michel/ - and blog on https://michel-slm.name/ ; I might use my gemlog for random musings and re-note them here once I get into the swing of it.

    #web0 forever!
    Thanks to
@amolith for running this - donating to #NixNet is the gift that keeps on giving!

  11. Due to an inundation of DMCA notices and threats from Hetzner, #NixNet's server provider, I've put Nitter behind an HTTP Basic Auth dialogue.

  15. @dredmorbius I had a few channels registered in the #nixnet namespace under an officially registered project and they were all seized last night because we migrated to Libera and mentioned the move in the topic.
    https://nixnet.social/notice/A7d44R5GpcL3cCA3CS

After that, I just deleted my account and replaced Freenode with Libera everywhere on my website.

  17. Drew's bot doing its thing in #nixnet :blobcat3c:
  18. @TransGal4872 @eris @jbauer nuuuu, IRCv3 is big thing that should bring a lot of "modern" features with it
    https://ircv3.net/

for example, if someone is using a client that supports IRCv3, they'll have access to all the messages sent in #nixnet even if they've never joined the server before. oragono even has "history playback" for clients that don't support IRCv3 and has awesome puppeting support. screenshot is of people on telegram talking to people on matrix through IRC and the IRC experience is actually *better* than on the other platforms*

*until matrix quotes a message or telegram replies to something then it's shit again. but you get the idea. ircv3 is beri beri gud

True, backups are important. One of the main reason people use cloud services is cause they think their data is safer on the cloud than their local computers.

And its good to hear you do regular backups at trom.

I know that providers like , , etc. don't provide bitwarden, despite the fact that password management is very important. So I always assumed this was the reason behind it, that was my best guess.
