Chocolatey packaging has resumed!

Earlier, we’ve showcased a new installation script for Chocolatey that utilizes the WiX installer’s quiet mode instead of the ZIP extraction method. However, our deployment of this new installation script didn’t go smoothly, causing new versions of our packages to fail to meet the validation checks.

To recap, we’ve always provided Chocolatey packages to make installation of our programs easier and frictionless. This makes sure that we always provide an easy way for our users to install Nitrocid and BassBoom, alongside our future programs that will come soon in the coming months.

We wanted to make the experience consistent with WinGet, so we’ve decided to make appropriate changes to the Chocolatey packages to make sure that both Chocolatey and WinGet packages provide the exact same experience. We ran into problems pushing those packages, though.

We are now very excited to announce that the distribution of Chocolatey packages for our projects has resumed! The new packages will be available for download in the next few hours.

Nitrocid 0.2.1 Tech Preview is available

This year, we’ve released a new major version of Nitrocid that brought lots of amazing new features that we were working on since last year. It brought attractive new look and general improvements to the whole kernel, while introducing new features that improve your user experience, including:

• Chatbot AI
• Widget Canvas API
• Configurable modern logon screen and homepage
• …and so on.

As we are less than two years shy of the tenth year anniversary of the first ever version of Nitrocid, which was v0.0.1 released February 22nd, 2018, we are so happy to announce that the new version of Nitrocid is under construction.

Starting from today, you can now obtain an early taste of how Nitrocid 0.2.1 will evolve. Based on our previous experiences with the previous technical preview of 0.2.0, we’ve finished implementing all the technical side of this version, and real development will start early next month.

Temporary pause applied to Chocolatey package updates

Since several years ago, we have been providing Chocolatey packages for each new version of our applications, such as Nitrocid and BassBoom. Both of these applications used manual extraction as the method, and our Chocolatey packages tried to make it easier for users to install them. Since then, we’ve implemented the WiX installer method so that Windows users can install our applications seamlessly.

However, we are currently running into problems with pushing new Chocolatey packaging for each new version of our projects, due to the changes and the adjustments that we’ve made so that our packages use the WiX installation method for more consistency with the rest of the install methods.

As those technical problems are serious and need a bit of time to analyze and to solve, we’ve decided to temporarily halt the distribution of all further Chocolatey packages for new versions of our projects, including Nitrocid (0.2.1 TP, 0.2.0.x, and 0.1.0.x) and BassBoom (1.0.x).

This temporary halt will give us time to find the root cause and to attempt to provide a permanent fix.

Nitrocid’s Windows installer becomes more modular with optional addons installation

We have released v0.2.0.10 and v0.1.0.77 with the improved Windows installer! You can now try it out by downloading the installer file in the Releases page here. Learn more about it here.

Last year, we have introduced a brand new way to install Nitrocid to your Windows system using the WiX installer. This method provides you an easy way to install Nitrocid, and we have already integrated it with our WinGet packages for Nitrocid to make it easier for those who prefer WinGet over Chocolatey, as we know that WinGet is bundled with Windows 11 and modern Windows 10 versions by default.

However, the Windows installer didn’t allow you to exclude the Nitrocid addons, which meant that the minimal installation, which Nitrocid already supports, isn’t possible with this installer method. We needed to rectify this problem, and we took it into consideration during the rather quiet development of an upcoming version of Nitrocid, which is v0.2.1.

Now, we are very thrilled to introduce you to an enhanced Windows installer! It finally allows you to choose whether or not to exclude Nitrocid addons during the installation, and this is one of the most noticeable changes that will be introduced to Nitrocid v0.2.1!

Not only will this enhanced installer land to v0.2.1, but it will also land to v0.2.0 and v0.1.0 in a future upgrade expected to release later this week. This is part of our broader plan to support Nitrocid v0.1.0 and v0.2.0 for a long term while providing improvements to our projects.
