  1. I'm very thankful to the astronauts on the International Space Station for taking a series of photos of Chennai, India for me.

They used the lens I requested, but the longest exposure time they used was ~0.07 s, when I really need them to take a much longer exposure time (like 1s second).

I can totally imagine what's happening when the astronaut sees my request... "One second? That doesn't make sense, the image would overexposed and blurry. That can't be what they meant, but I'll take some good images for them with shorter exposure times." πŸ™ƒ

Rinse and repeat... Anyway, it's always helpful to get images like this, and 0.07 s is the longest they've taken for me yet, so we'll see if we can do something with it!

  2. [Edit: Solved! Thanks @ai6yr, @headfirstonly, and @pmisson! I had thought the ISS was too far inland for it to be the coast.]

Dear Hive Mind: This photo shows two cities in India, but I don't know which they are. I would like to know out which they are so that I can figure out what all the bright dots in the image are. The original image (with much higher resolution) is here: eol.jsc.nasa.gov/SearchPhotos/

I am not sure which way is North, the image may be rotated. Are any of you familiar enough with Indian cities to work it out?

The #InternationalSpaceStation was over 18.9Β° N, 76.9Β° E when the photo was taken, but it is probably not taken directly downward.
