Rode an older #SMU260 #QueenslandRail train today. Usually we get the new #NGR sets on the #GoldCoast line. The older trains, apart from more comfortable seats, and door buttons on the sides of the doors, not in the middle, also have a lot more room for people in wheelchairs or with bikes. Look how much space is left in the middle. The only good things about NGRs seem to be headrests, higher max speed (140 km/h instead of 130 km/h) and perhaps accessible toilets.

The older #QueenslandRail trains had push buttons on the sides of doors. The #NGR #trains have one button in the centre. I think it was done either to lower costs, or based on feedback from occasional users who could not find a button. Regular users knew the location of buttons. With the central placement, and tinted glass, people on the platform often block the exit of people on the train. They come to the middle of the door, push the button and stand there surprised that people try to get off.

The #NGR (New Generation Rollingstock) #train of #QueenslandRail at #Helensvale. The newest trains in #Queensland. Seating 454 pax. Max speed 140km/h. Quiet, smooth ride. Accessible toilets. The seats are less comfortable (thinner, harder) compared to older types, are narrow, and have little leg room, but they have head rests, so they are safer. No folding trays, no electrical outlets, no luggage storage, no bicycle stands. You are allowed to take a bike on board free, via the first & last door.
