You don't really need a weather forecast of forthcoming persistent rain in #Newbury if you get the train. Last night there were four tankers on standby again to pump out the sumps and avoid the very aesthetic, but slightly disruptive lake that collects over the tracks.

Looking at the Belfast Telegraph 15 June 1872 via @BNArchive and it rightly has Mark Tuck (https://nickbits.co.uk/blog/2022/03/berkshire-blake-and-the-stocks/) of #Newbury placed in the stocks. It says stocks not used for 26 years. Article even then was wrong. Got several uses in the late 1840s and 1850s. Indeed got a growing list around this time of those put in both #Newbury and #Thatcham stocks and a few in #Greenham and #Donnington and #Speenhamland.

Writing more entries for #history entries for my Newbury 365 (2nd Ed.) book, seem to be delving into Beating of the Bounds a bit. Got #Newbury as far back as 1771, some interesting goings on at many of them, very detailed write ups for many including one at #Woolhampton, few for #Greenham, etc but not many at all for #Thatcham.
