I’ve also found that NetNewsWire is very good at discovering an rss or Atom feed if one exists, given just a base URL.

Many public sites don’t advertise their RSS / Atom support, so it’s worth a try.

  4. Edit: My previous fix of ByeDoom isn't working on other channels. I'm flummoxed. Maybe it's time to just go back to (only) books. The internet sucks too much of life anyway.
    ---
I'm trying to reduce #YouTube time, which for me means using an RSS reader to check my favorite channels rather than going to YouTube directly. By doing this I reduce distractions (and #RSS is glorious anyway).

I used to be able to just put the channel URL into #NetNewsWire and it would pick it up, but that doesn't seem to work now. I found instructions for how to use Command-F to find the channel ID in the page source, but that didn't work either. I've tried a few other things (adding /feeds/video.xml to the URL) and no luck.

In another weird twist: I already have some YouTube channel feeds in my reader. They're updating normally. But if I copy that feed's url and put it into my browser window? It says YouTube can't find the feed. What the heck?

Has anyone had luck following YouTube channels with RSS?

  5. #NetNewsWire I get the following error in iOS when refreshing. I already removed the feedly account and added it again and it was working for a day.
Any ideas what I can do about this or is it a bug?

  6. #NetNewsWire, my (I guess now formerly) favorite RSS reader, now requires #macOS Tahoe

  7. 23 years later, NetNewsWire is still the one…

NetNewsWire 1.0 for Mac shipped 23 years ago today! 🎸🎩🕶️

Here’s where things are on this particular February 11: we just shipped 7.0 for Mac and iOS, and now we’re working on NetNewsWire 7.0.1.

After a big release, no matter how careful we are, there are often some regressions to fix and tweaks to make right away, so we’re working on those. Here’s the milestone with the current to-do list.

    NetNewsWire – NetNewsWire Turns 23

    https://netnewswire.blog/2026/02/11/netnewswire-turns.html

I’ve tried miniflux and it was great. However, I always keep coming back to NetNewsWire because the Mac is my platform of choice and NNW is the best RSS reader for the Mac. Yes, even after 23 years. This is especially true as my home server is not necessarily something that I can keep running once I no longer have a home.

  8. Avoid the email newsletter inbox barrage: get an RSS feed reader and subscribe to feeds that you can peruse at your leisure.
    I use, and recommend, #NetNewsWire.

  9. Teymur asked me, probably hoping for some kind of automation. Alas, there is none. And still, here is my “workflow” for my link blog.

    Step 1: Input

I find articles, links, etc. all over the place. Many of them come through Mastodon and almost all remaining ones come from my feed reader. (NetNewsWire, in case you want to know.)

    Step 2: Putput

If one of the posts/links look like something I want to read a bit more closely later on, they’ll now (finally!) end up in Wallabag. I used to be a Pocket power user and ever since they closed down, I was a bit unmoored. Enough so, that I stopped after step 1 for quite a long time.

    Step 3: Output

When I feel like it, I read those things again and when I still find them interesting, I throw them into my Raindrop account. Once an hour a script calls their API and puts the link on my website. (Now why would I use Raindrop instead of just putting them directly into the database? Laziness, mostly. It was easier to quickly write the cronjob than to write an admin backend that is as nice to use as Raindrop.)

And there you have it. A workflow!

  10. #LiquidGlass hat #NetNewsWire weder besser noch schöner gemacht. Also probiere ich jetzt mal meine RSS-Feeds gleich direkt in #Thunderbird. Nach den ersten Stunden damit stellt sich bereits Zufriedenheit ein.

  12. My first RSS reader was NetNewsWire for Mac OS X in 2003. It was a pretty awesome app, and RSS kicked ass back then.

These days, finding the RSS feeds is getting harder and harder from the news sites, or they have been removed.

  13. @khurtwilliams "On iOS, it’s snappy and predictable. It is, in the best way, boring."

Totally agree with this assessment. I use Inoreader backend but their own app feels like they just ported the Android version to iOS. #NetNewsWire feels like it was made by Steve Jobs for the iPhone 3GS, and I mean that as a massive compliment. It's just so simple, smooth, silky, and reliable. Any time I get curious and try a new app, I always come back to NNW.

  14. Want to reduce the number of emails in your inbox, but still keep up with your favorite newsletters? Get an RSS feed reader. I use #NetNewsWire, and highly recommend it.

  15. After many, many years, I have finally switched off Reeder to NetNewsWire. While I really liked the clean interface of Reeder, the switch to the new version (a year or so ago), and the subscription pricing turned me off of it. Hoping that #netnewswire continues to keep up on things for me. Wondering if I can add a Mastodon feed to it?

  16. What's better than following online publications via email newsletters in your already flooded inbox?

Following them via RSS feed! It's non-intrusive and easy to manage. I use the NetNewsWire feed reader.

  17. On the subject of canceling subscriptions... I decided not to renew Feedbin and I've imported my news feeds into NetNewsWire instead of Reeder Classic (unclear how long "classic" will be supported).

Next-up I really need to pull my RAW photos from Lightroom Cloud and cancel my final Adobe subscription.

  18. You'd think Google, having launched schema.org, knows how to produce valid schema.org metadata and HTML5.

YouTube: How about a `<span>` inside the head, and `<link rel=alternative>` inside the body?

    HTML5 parsers:
Thanks, I'll take that span as your implied end of `<head>`, and raise you an implied start of `<body>`. Everything that follows is now part of the body.

  19. Facebook alternatives (an incomplete list): With a lot of people talking about leaving Facebook and other Meta properties, but also often expressing frustration with the most popular other options not having the same functionality, I started thinking about what could be done, where, and how. Here are my initial thoughts. michaelhans.com/eclecticism/?p

  20. @borisv after some research I'll go with the last Ipad Air. (Just waiting for the restock at my tech shop). I need #zotero for pdfs and epubs, #obsidianmd, #omnivoreapp for saved articles and #netnewswire for #rss. Extra: photo editing with the Pencil Pro. Second choice was Boox tablet, because they run on Android and can use all of the above. Not using Amazon at all. Hope it helps in your decision.

  21. RSS App recommendation:

I switched from NetNewsWire to ReadKit.

Mainly because I can adjust text size preciesely. It is a pleasant experience so far. And it is a universal app. With a one-time payment option.

It also supports "Read it later" platforms and can work as a reading list too! With multiple accounts.

  27. Does anyone here use Reeder 5? I'm giving RSS feeds a try and am having problems with the “Subscribe with Reeder" extension in Safari.

For example, if I try to sub to the NintendoLife news feed by clicking on the Reeder extension, it gives me a “server not found" error and only picks up the standard non-feed URL of “nintendolife.com/news”

However, if I use NetNewsWire to sub to the feed, it finds “nintendolife.com/feeds/news"

  32. @ellane An RSS reader is just an app that reads RSS feeds like an email app reads e-mail mailboxes or a web browser reads web pages. #Reeder an #Unread are good apps, and so is #NetNewsWire.

  33. @stuarticus Oh whoa, I did not realize #NetNewsWire was still in active development (not a knock on you, but on me).

I remember adding an "Add to NetNewsWire" link to my blog back in the early days of #RSS and #SocialSharing.

  34. Agree we need this "Social Reader" concept based on #Microsub - badly. I know of a few early attempts but need a robust version. #Netnewswire could evolve to be this. So could #Thunderbird.
Or as this author suggests, #Mozilla's #Firefox could.
