  1. "A zombie government is distracted, listless, unambitious and uncreative", writes #NesrineMalik in #TheGuardian about #Starmer. archive.is/Kx7kp

What comes next must be the opposite, writes Malik. But she carefully expreses no hope that the hollowed-out Labour Party might escape zombiedom.

  2. It's always good to start the week with the heartwarming sight of a boot being put hard into Keir #Starmer. #NesrineMalik does a grand job here in #TheGuardian.

Starmer seems to have no concept of a support base, no idea of the people he needs to keep onside. Indeed, it wouldn't be much worse if he had actually set out to enrage every sector of society.

Malik, N. (2025, July 22). The go-between: how Qatar became the global capital of diplomacy. The Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jul/22/how-qatar-became-the-global-capital-of-diplomacy
  4. The début episode of #Jadaliyya's Long Form pod features #NesrineMalik in a remarkable conversation with #BassamHaddad and #MouinRabbani, covering #ArabPolitics, #geopolitics of the #MENA region, the #Sudan conflict, and why there's "no going back" to the comfortable imperial assumptions about "international order" after the #GazaGenocide.

Kemi Badenoch's greatest hits, by Nesrine Malik:
    - “Not all cultures are equally valid” when deciding who may enter the UK
    - Autistic people undeservingly get “better treatment” & economic “privileges and protections”
    - Maternity pay is “excessive”
    - Online safety is “legislating for hurt feelings”
    - Net zero is “unilateral economic disarmament”
    - Much of her career so far is culture warring

  6. #Truth #NesrineMalik
human rights are not universal and international law is arbitrarily applied.

  7. As character deconstructions go, this, by Nesrine Malik, is a masterpiece. Not least the description of Rishi Sunak as a man caught between two different forms of cowardice.

  8. The message in this article ⬆️ by the fabulous #NesrineMalik is SO important. it is just not true that we are all regressives resisting change, yet our system amplifies and panders regressivism, at all levels.

Credit to a fellow school mum for the apt word “pandering”. We were talking about school drop-off arrangements (an ongoing issue..). She said: why is it always the angry driver parent who is being pandered, not those asking for healthier, better green policies?
