  1. "North Korea could have the world’s largest rare earth reserves." This includes #Neodymium. Rare earth elements are an essential component for the arms industry and many #electronics .

For those who love earthly commodities, this makes an attack on #NorthKorea a temptation.

China has already secured many mineral resources in North Korea.

  3. phys.org/news/2025-08-critical

#criticalminerals, such as #cobalt, #lithium, #gallium and #rareearth elements like #neodymium and #yttrium, are currently being discarded as tailings of other mineral streams like #gold and zinc…

"The challenge lies in recovery," Holley said. "It's like getting salt out of bread dough—we need to do a lot more research, development and policy to make the recovery of these critical minerals economically feasible."

  4. What's a reliable and reasonably priced source to buy #neodymium #magnet directly from China? In between #dealextreme going down and the EU regulation on small magnets, prices went through the roof and quality down the drain.

I'd want both round magnets to glue/lodge into #3dprinting as well as spheres and those new-ish odd-shaped ones for #fidget and #boardgame use...

"Just use #Aliexpress" is not useful unless accompanied by a specific, reliable vendor.

    #boost appreciated, as always.

  5. #Neodymium is one of the more reactive lanthanides—a group of similar metallic elements numbered 57-71 on the periodic table. These 15 elements, plus scandium and yttrium, are termed “rare earth elements”

  10. China Plans to Ban Exports of Rare Earth Magnet Tech

China is considering banning the export of technologies used to produce high-performance #rare #earth #magnets deployed in electric vehicles, wind turbine motors and other products, citing “national security” as a reason, it has been learned.

With the global trend toward decarbonization driving a shift toward the use of electric motors, China is believed to be seeking to seize control of the magnet supply chain and establish dominance in the burgeoning environment sector.

China is estimated to hold an about 84% share of the global market in #neodymium magnets and an over 90% interest in #samarium #cobalt magnets.

If China bans the export of such technologies, it would be difficult for the United States and Europe, which do not traditionally manufacture rare earth magnets, to newly enter the market, thus making those countries totally dependent on China, according to a European source

  14. @riskable My focus is on the space. But temperature matters there too, because magnets start to lose field strength in the range of temperatures motors actually experience (~80°C). So you have to use higher amounts of , which means even higher cost & somewhat lower nominal field strengths. So could be a really good fit, IF the achievable field strengths can approach the theoretical.

Need to watch this space, as I have investments in some rare earth plays.
