I've been thinking about Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" lately. The villagers' conformity and complicity remind me so much of today's majority, when it comes to (not) preventing constant death and disablement. Even the human sacrifice aspect of the story has an echo in how "the weak" are being discarded, now that the pandemic has to be "over".
