Hitting these shaded areas that stay well below freezing has to be tough. You'd have to do the salt/sand thing prior to any sun angle changes - then send in the plows(*)
And none of us really want that de-icing mix to drain out to the waterways out here either

More messing with the traffic flow on I26 in #Asheville occurred overnight (and our local paper let folks know about it at 5pm) in advance of changes to the BRP bridge traffic and the new interchange.
This has been going on for some time...

Well, this is going to make a lot of people in West Asheville quite unhappy.
The long-dragged out I26 revamping now comes with a flyover of Patton Ave. Which no one has heard about, although apparently part of the "new" design for a year.

CATASTROPHIC TRANSPORTATION IMPACTS IN WESTERN NC
I-40 and I-26 are impassable in multiple locations.
All roads in Western North Carolina should be considered closed.
Motorists should not travel in this area, should not attempt to drive through standing water, and must respect barricades and road closure signs.

I was so caught up in #Helene that I didn't connect the dots between the report I'm attempting to finalize today--on how #NCDOT can better help cities and towns prepare for and recover from major disruptive events--and the fact that NCDOT has declared the entire western NC transportation system closed until further notice.
I actually gasped.
This report I'm finalizing today--the product of a years' long research effort--might actually help someone tomorrow.
