Cookie and Vittorio's Wedding, by Nan Goldin (1986)

One of my favorite photographers and one of my favorite examples of her work. I just love how happy they look. This is a simple human moment and there's a spark to it I can't fully explain.

Dass Laura Poitras daraus einen politischen Film macht, ist keine Überraschung. Eher eine Konsequenz ihres gesamten Werks. Sie untersucht Macht als etwas, das sich in Menschen einschreibt. For #ParadiseLost, I spoke with five individuals who grew up in SW #Florida and were around to witness the formation of Sarasota’s hardcore #punk scene in the mid-1980s. Within these interviews is some nostalgia tempered with the harsh reality of racism, violence, dysfunctional family dynamics and so on. Memory is always incomplete, and the interviewees push up against that limitation continuously as they try to recall the events of 40 years ago. This #NanGoldin quote seemed relevant. #zines

"Renowned Jewish American photographer Nan Goldin used the opening of her retrospective exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin to denounce Israel’s genocide and call for global action."

In her speech, Goldin criticized Germany for conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism, stating that the government is using this false equivalency to suppress dissent.
