Does AI use mean less web traffic for museums?
There are many ways to approach this, but here I've mapped the ratio of web visits at smk.dk to physical museum visits. If guests get info elsewhere, this ratio should change (i.e. fewer web visits per physical visit). I'm pretty sure that must be happening but currently the effect isn't strong enough to be clearly visible. We'll follow these numbers closely 🔎

Interesting conversation starter from @thisisaaronland on the SFO Museum blog: 'Shared cross-institutional vector embeddings – how we might get there' https://millsfield.sfomuseum.org/blog/2026/04/06/shared-embeddings/ - is anyone up for kicking those tyres?

Good news for anyone working on their proposals for the next Fantastic Futures conference - the deadline is extended to April 16! https://ai4lam.org/submission-instructions/
#FF2026 is in the US, but will be very hybrid so you don't need to travel there to present or attend many sessions #AI4LAM #MuseTech

Quick blog post noting some thoughts on 'Documenting AI-created/enhanced records in catalogues/metadata/displays' - I'd love to know who's already doing it, and how? https://www.openobjects.org.uk/2026/02/documenting-automatic-text-transcription-tools-in-catalogues-metadata-displays/ #AI4LAM #MuseTech

*waves* at @ukmcg.bsky.social #MuseTech25 folk from #FF2025 - it'd be lovely to see more museum presentations at #FF2026 - and the #DH2026 call for proposals is still open https://dh2026.adho.org/cfp/ - the conference is in Korea but remote presentations are possible! #MuseTech #AI4LAM #DigitalHumanities

Some great stuff from @thisisaaronland here, focused on cultural heritage but relevant widely.
On the web, the unglamorous “plywood” of digital, which if we can finally let go of chasing eyeballs, might let us ”foster discovery and revisiting on the time scale of the humanities rather than the marketplace.”

Here goes useful info for those interested in following, or applying for this initiative. The public call involves hiring two professionals, for web communication and web technology. Candidates have until Feb 10 to apply.
Our goal is to provide #museums and other #memoryinstitutions with an open tool that facilitates the exploration of decentralized social networks — #TheFediverse. -
