Using the #Zesarux emulator in #JupiterACE #emulation mode and defining some high-level words to handle strings ...

I can see why this machine, in hindsight, has probably been one of the best ways to learn #Forth in its day as it comes with just enough words in its dictionary to get you going. It's a very compact vocabulary:

No ACCEPT, no MOVE and no 2DUP or even HEX - you need them, you write them yourself.

But this is what sharpens your skills and gives you a very good understanding of the bottom-up method.

One of the cool things about the #Minstrel4th is the fact that its #ROM not only contains the original #JupiterACE ROM and an Enhanced JupiterACE ROM by @nihirash (which enables program load via serial I/O amongst other things) - no: there are also #ZX80 and #ZX81 "compatible" #BASIC ROMs available on the additional banks, all selectable via jumpers.

The ZX81 compatible ROM works well enough to run "Flight Simulation" by Psion Computers.

EDIT: Oh, and it runs the ZX81 version of "Mazogs", of course ...

What will not work is anything that uses non-standard screen and keyboard routines, as the hardware of the Minstrel 4th is slightly different from the original ZX81. Still, it's a nice extra I didn't expect.

Done with the #Minstrel4th and it's #alive 🥳

I still have the Tynemouth clocked serial module to finish so I can easily transfer data via serial I/O, but that can wait until tomorrow.

I'm so happy that this replica of the original #JupiterACE is working - can't wait to load some classic games tomorrow!!

This joystick card has had a Royal Mail journey worthy of an X-Factor contestant.

Put together yesterday and tested in the Minstrel 4th. Works a charm.

However, space problems with the RC2014 means I need to rework the Pi Zero Serial terminal and lower the card height to fit all the cards on.

I have a plan.
