  1. #OpenRecall: #Microsoft awakened a craving for a new kind of surveillance. The only issue was that people didn't like Microsoft and wanted to inflict the surveillance on themselves.

  3. @system76 @manjarolinux

I see new users mostly trying these distros
    1. Ubuntu/PopOS/Mint
    2. Manajaro
    3. Fedora

Although I haven't seen any of the refugees try Fedora yet. I've seen newcomers try it in the past.

If @fedora hadn't messed up codecs installation it would've been by far the best experience for newcomers. There should be a toggle during install that adds rpm fusion and installs ffmpg-full from there ASAP

  7. I have several email addresses from different providers, all at no cost. All this talk about the recall "feature" from Microsoft make me want to consider deleting my Hotmail account. This also makes me want to review all the email providers I use. I wonder if I should consider setting up elsewhere, though I would have no idea where.

  8. "If you were wondering what kind of information, Recall collects. Well, you already know that it is enabled by default and takes screenshots every few seconds."

👋 Bye Windows! Please send my best regards to Shockwave and Java for me!

  10. @noybeu has filed a complaint regarding use of pupils' personal data in #Microsoft #m365 Education.

Very interesting after the #google chromebook case in #denmark from last year. And with the news around #microsoft_recall my trust w/regards to M's handling of personal data is slim, to say the least.

  12. Windows users will be vulnerable to any of their sensitive data being stolen by malware since Recall stores everything in an unsecured database. What do you do if you're a gamer fed up with Windows, but you're not ready to format your whole PC over to Linux?

One option is to get a Steam Deck. It's a portable gaming system, but connect it to a dock or dongle and it's also a full featured desktop PC.

On the one hand #Microsoft has Windows Defender that blocks keyloggers. On the other hand, they're about to ship a #keylogger and screen logger as part of the OS.

None of those settings will stop a domestic abuser.
Turn it off? Set them off.
Delete a snapshot? What are you hiding?
Pause collection? What are you hiding?

This is a terrible idea and Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for creating it.

And that doesn't get into issues for anyone living in a police state.
